When you specify /MD the compiler will link MSVCRT.LIB(MSVCRT.dll/MSVCR71.dll must be available at runtime) to your object code. If you use /MT the compiler will link the static version of C runtime (LIBCMT.lib) to your application. There is no need for you to generate four static library versions. We have been using this sort of setup for a few years now, and it is very usefull indeed. In fact, we usually have more than just debug,release and the one you call "rebug". We also have Debug Optimised, ( "Derel" ? :) ), which is the full debug-build with optimisation turned on. When you have something which only crashes in release, it can be good to go backwards towards the normal debug build through these two extra targets. The only problem with the scheme is that multiple configurations like these are poorly supported by VC...well, at least VC 6. It's a hassle to maintain and there are bugs which will mess up your configurations when you alter options in the menus. The configuration manager in VC 7 seems better. -=jarl=-

There's multiple ways to do this: 1. There's a wait for reboot option in MoveFileEx MoveFileEx(src, dst, MOVEFILE_DELAY_UNTIL_REBOOT|MOVEFILE_REPLACE_EXISTING); 2. Download the update exe and run it. None of the suggestions offered worked, so I asked the same question on comp.lang.c++.moderated, and they pointed out that you need to double expand the __LINE__ macro for some subtle reasons. Anyways, for future readers interested in how to do it, here is what I now use: #define STRINGIZE(x) #x #define EVAL_STRINGIZE(x) STRINGIZE(x) #define WARN(warning) message(__FILE__ "("EVAL_STRINGIZE(__LINE__)"): warning C1000: " warning) Put these macros in a general project header included everywhere (I guess you could even put them in stdafx.h if you are so inclined, personally, all my projects have a file called Project.h that is the first included in every header.) Then whenever you want to issue a warning during compile time just use this: #pragma WARN("Using bubble sort here, a better algorithm is required") which will appear on your compiler output (and task list if using VC .Net), which you can F4 through. When you fix the error, just remove the pragma.
