Guys, a full version of Photoshop can be had for $10/Month. Its all I've ever needed for any image format. 3D is also part of the tool these days.

Another Win 10 Winge... -
ScannersI'll chime in as an old SysAdmin. Check out the fuser drum inside. If its dirty, clean it carefully. If its ancient, replace it and the toner(if needed), after first carefully taking a vacuum to the interior. If you still have some toner left, shake the cartrige carefully to better distribute the toner powder inside (be careful not to spill any). Most laser printers will last ages as long as you can find toner and replacement fuser drum. They're infinitely more reliable than inkjet. I kicked my HP inkjet to the curb when I bought my Dell workgroup printer in 2007. LAN printing is also a must, be it wifi or cabled(preferred). I tend to cable (CAT6 of better) my stuff for security and speed. Depending on the scanning needing to be done, it might be a better idea to look into a dedicated document or photo scanner, with much better specs and features, than an "all in one" can provide.

Whizz For CS!Indeed... Like Krab with a K at the local grocer... It must be fake!!! :)

Some things never get fixed3rd party or composite controls also tend to make the designer a tad mental.

Anyone want to join me in the BSOD fight club?+1 to the no BSOD club here. I haven't had any at all in Win10, and I code in VS2019 Pro (Knocking on some serious wood here). 2 years ago, I did have a workstation class motherboard die on me. Likely was around then was the last time I've seen a BSOD in Win7. Drivers can cause this as well. But I tend to buy quality hardware that seldom suffer those issues.

I'm on no sleep.... NO SLEEP!!!!Absinth? Talk about an old school sleep remedy. lol.. Why not just take a few drags of some good quality reefer? I find it helps a few ailments, including sleep. :)

Blow that dust out!!Much quieter in my case, running higher end workstations with beefy graphics cards that are never short of some fan noise. lol There are some decent closed loop systems out there (I favor Corsair's H115i series). The main thing is to make sure your case can accommodate the radiator. Other than mounting the radiator itself, its no harder to deal with than a standard "tower" cooler. Get some some good thermal transfer compound (I like Arctic Cooling's MX-4), clean the lid and new cooler surface well, then "tin" each surface with the compound. Use very thin amount of compound to fill the microscopic bumps and valleys. I like to drag an old laminated card across them, while pressing downward and scraping away excess. Then put a small amount on the CPU lid before final mounting. Mount the radiator drawing air through it to the outside of the case. Anything north of 4 cores in I7+ territory should be on liquid IMNSHO. Also favor a larger tower with both airspace and room for a few aux fans for air transfer. Also keeping the ambient room temp around 75 or below at low humidity will also help a ton. With the right setup and quality hardware + environment, your systems should run over a decade. My last rig, the "lapped" 3900k was built at the end of 2010, and is still running strong. On the server front, I have hand built servers in the field that have been re-assigned (some retired) at 18-20 years old. Still running on the same spinning disks I put into them when Windows 2000 Server was a new thing.

Blow that dust out!!Did 2 of my machines in May. Something peeps should consider is the storage inside a box. Hard drives like to be kept below 50c to run reliably. For a target temp, I try to keep the drives in my care, in the 30c range. Doing this will add years of reliability to any drive. Most people tend to think of things in terms of temperature maximums. And that the thermal junction maximum is the limit, not thinking of what they may damage along the way. Liquid cooling should be explored where practical. Even in servers if you have the space. My 8 core 6900K I7 never sees 50c. It always runs from 25c - 45c in performance mode, due to a decent liquid cooler. I've even "lapped" a CPU lid in the past to buy about 8 degrees Celsius, on my old 3900K rig. :)

Naming stuff...I'll take an F. I'd like to buy a vowel Pat, U! I'd like to solve that Puzzle Pat... Sorry, could NOT resist. :) On the topic, I often throw a little slang around when I get bored with naming. An example would be a module I wrote to get domain whois data. I named the function "WhoIsDis" and another "WhoIsDat" for the string data received.

Software recommendations for animation and digital artTake it from a former content dev, like anything else, you'll want her learning the gold standard in tools for sake of future skill application. Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud subs run around $20. Great for anything 2D and some light 3D as well. For higher end 3D, AutoDesk stuff like 3DSMax and Maya are king. I would toss those names out there, and then direct them to Blender, since it is free. Best of Luck.

Maybe old news, but... Outlook + gmail accountsCould be the Admins over the mail system are working on something, or something flaky on the back end causing authentication issues. Either are most likely the case.

Old age shows its mark...You mean this isn't the Commodore 64 Basic language thread? :)

Self Winding Universe?Well, like a good author who once wrote: “Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.” My guess is that somewhere between that, and being put away by "top men.(tm)" :)

Self Winding Universe?I use the classic sniff test. :)

What's the current status of free anti-virus toolsI tend to stay clear of "free" AV products for obvious reasons already discussed. If you have a good enough reason to buy around 5 licenses, some of the premium security suites can be had for around $5-$8/seat. Even then, you could sell the other licenses you don't need to friends or family. I happen to have that exact number of PC's (5), so I do this every year. As for software utilizing your CPU cores, it might be helpful to know which CPU you are using. Core over utilization can be a real serious thing, especially if you are running WIN10 on an older CPU. Best of luck,
