Code Project Insider - - Is it the End of an Era?Will the Code Project Insider Return? Or are we seeing the End of an Era? I like many others miss the Daily Newsletter it was a good way to keep up on topics many of us would have missed if not for the eye of the Code Project Staff :) . Please let us know if the Newsletter is on hiatus, and will it return soon or will be in the dust bin of history :sigh: . Thanks, and Cheers

"You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike."The best Part: :-D " You are on the edge of a breath-taking view. Far below you is an active volcano, from which great gouts of molten lava come surging out, cascading back down into the depths. The glowing rock fills the farthest reaches of the cavern with a blood-red glare, giving every- thing an eerie, macabre appearance. The air is filled with flickering sparks of ash and a heavy smell of brimstone. The walls are hot to the touch, and the thundering of the volcano drowns out all other sounds. Embedded in the jagged roof far overhead are myriad twisted formations composed of pure white alabaster, which scatter the murky light into sinister apparitions upon the walls. To one side is a deep gorge, filled with a bizarre chaos of tortured rock which seems to have been crafted by the devil himself. An immense river of fire crashes out from the depths of the volcano, burns its way through the gorge, and plummets into a bottomless pit far off to your left. To the right, an immense geyser of blistering steam erupts continuously from a barren island in the center of a sulfurous lake, which bubbles ominously. The far right wall is aflame with an incandescence of its own, which lends an additional infernal splendor to the already hellish scene. A dark, foreboding passage exits to the south. "

"You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike."I played it on my CPM System around that time. A friend of mine played it as well. He started a job at Link-a-Bit (later Qualcomm) as the new guy they showed it to him at lunch on the PDP-10, he progressed so far into the game they ask him how he went so far. he told them he played it on a friend's home computer, they thought it was impossible, that it could only be run on a Main Frame. Now you can run it on a phone. PROGRESS and there are some that believe it is all Alien Technology.

Back to the Future - MS EditionOh Wow, I forgot about that I bought the Vortrax chip (I think it was about $65 a lot for the mid 80's) wire wrapped a S100 Board with an ADC and an RTC and had a talking Clock as well as a talking voltmeter The system also greeted me on Powerup. You can Thank the movie 2001 and the HAL 9000 for some of the that went into that system.

Back to the Future - MS EditionCP/M That was the OS I used at home while working on by BSCS it allowed me to program at home vs classmates going to the LAB to do homework. In those days you needed to program in ASM just to get peripherals to work. Good memories :-D

I wish Microsoft would write a CAD program.I agree, I used Eagle for several projects, and found it to restrictive for small projects (Understand they want to sell it to you) but the free version changed when sold to another company I also tried DesignSpark it works but has stalled on development and seemed awkward to use I started using KiCad several years ago and it seems to work well with no restrictions If you are just doing schematics (electronic) it should be good for you

We need an official term for a group of software engineersOr an "Assembly" but that may be too close to the Hardware

The Peter Norton thread below go me thinking ...Vedit was one of the first full featured editors I used with CP/M and then when I built my first IBM AT clone it also became available for DOS although I do not use it now it was one of the best programming editors of the day, the company is still around (surprise) Greenview Data Company Overview[^]

What happened to engineering? In my past it has been if there is an Engineering problem it's too late to fix it or it will cost too much so let the Software Engineers fix it they can make it work so we code around problems and at least make it work till the next version (hate it) But then again " It's software that makes Hardware Happen" ;)
