  • Taking huge "leaps of faith" while coding
    R Roger165

I would believe you while coding you would know what each section is suppose to return. Been there I too get frustrated because I know what I want to happen. To reach that point I realize how many little pieces need to be implemented. Then realize that some parts could be reused for another section that has yet to be written. I try to test groups of code that work together. All trying to reach the goal of a functioning app. Take breaks after 20-30 minutes. Don't go 2-3 hours STR8. Wish you the best. Peace,

    R Roger165

PHP, HTML, Java script, linux, these give you freedom. I been doing VB.6, VB.Net for 20 + years and use it regular. But when looking for a job they throw it in the ad as a way to get you to look. Reading the job ad deeper you realize they want C#, java script, hmtl, web api skills etc. I have switched to Php and laravel and vue.js and am very happy.

  • Which Linux is most like Windows?
    R Roger165

I have tried ubuntu 14.10 LTS. [^] After short time you can be productive. Comes with a an office knock off suite. boots quickly. On a side note I don't get why many people think its a joke to not answer the question seriously. I was interested in hearing some positive experiences. Oh well childish jokes it is.

    Microsoft vs Linux

Three Microsoft engineers and three Linux engineers are about to board a train to a computer conference.
The Linux engineers notice that the Microsoft engineers bought only one ticket between them.

The Linux engineers ask the Microsoft engineers how they plan on getting to the conference.
"Watch and learn," one of the Microsoft engineers tells them.

As soon as the train leaves the station, the three Microsoft engineers rush from their seats and
all squeeze into one restroom. When the conductor comes through the car he knocks on the restroom
door and says "ticket please!" The door opens a crack and the one ticket is handed to the conductor.
The Linux engineers are impressed, and decide that's what they will do on the trip back.

Then on the return trip, the Linux engineers notice that the Microsoft engineers haven't bought any tickets.
"How do you plan on getting home without any tickets?" they ask. "Watch and learn,"
one of the Microsoft engineers tells them.

As soon as the train leaves the station, the three Linux engineers hurry for the restroom.
A few moments later, one of the Microsoft engineers gets up from his seat,
knocks on the restroom door and says, "ticket please!"

  • Performance review...
    R Roger165

Do you have any metrics that you were suppose to meet? Is the company in good shape financially? If not then you maybe in for a surprise when they tell you how you haven't performed up to the expected level. Do you put your 50 hours a week in for the man? No, Then your not taking your work seriously. Is this the first performance review? A guy I worked with had all the work he did documented and would bring in a stack of paper. In the end its just a job.

  • I'm too young for this...
    R Roger165

I too did it with the CEO at the time. I had a lot of witness. The guy was only 4-5 years older. He blatantly stole my idea that had been floated around. And when I called him on it 'He told me to I didn't know what i was doing and that he had been programming since I was in diapers.' He would have been 5 and still using punch cards. It's amazes me that people can't look at both sides and make a correct decision. That's why he gets paid the big bucks. You have to decide are you happy where you are? Can you find a another job? The grass isn't always greener but its about being happy every day. Today is my birthday and I am happy. Not working but happy.

  • What to do? What to do?
    R Roger165

Went thru the same struggle then decided on Laravel. Was it the right choice so far I think so. I got tired of starting an application and then not be able to figure out where to go from there. I been using Microsoft products since 1989 and I had enough with the help getting worst. I was looking forward 5 years and wanting to invest my time in learning something that would bring back joy in coding.
