  • If you could live forever, would you want to?
    R Rollin Shultz

On one hand I would love to develop skills for hundreds of years and truly master them, and on the other hand after being around already 64 years I have lost pets to old age and those times hurt.

  • why c++ is still being used?
    R Rollin Shultz

As noted by others for drivers and embedded systems. It is a mature language that works well with hardware with less interpretation. One reason many people left C++ was they hate pointers, but as those other languages mature, they too employ pointers, so in the end we are now seeing a revival of C++. p.s. Some people love pointers. :-D

  • Repeater Template Desinging
    R Rollin Shultz

Having done as was suggested by G_Griffin ie: search ASP.Net Repeater control examples, and selecting videos as my filter I found an excellent lesson from an old friend "Kudvenkat" on Youtube here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3w0XWWyVO4). It may be after you watch the following video, you may decide to instead use a gridview control, but either way this is an excellent lesson for introducing the repeater control. I learn best by watching video lessons and writing the code as a follow along method and I have learned most of my coding languages from kudvenkat and a few others.

  • 1920x1080 in 21,5" or in 24" what is your preference?
    R Rollin Shultz

I suppose I would opt for higher resolution for when I need it and change text size etc. with ctrl + scroll. I am spoiled though from using a true 4K 31" monitor and I can't imagine scaling down now. Strange thing I experienced is when I used the monitor in 3840 x 2160 mode icons and dialog boxes did not increase scale, but when I Switched to 4096 x 2160 mode, everything scaled appropriately and I find it very comfortable. With a monitor this size, I can use the single screen as two by using Window Key + left arrow and selecting the second app after that. Thank you Joan for another interesting question.

I opted to not install a pdf reader. I just use either chrome or Torch (a chrome based browser with extra features). It's one less app/program to maintain.

  • Pastor eaten by crocodiles demonstrating Jesus' water walk
    R Rollin Shultz

He got what he deserved for misrepresenting the "Gospel Message" and reducing "Christian Faith" to a Carnival side show. Unfortunately the public as I can see from the many replies will misconstrue the actions of this far out fringe religious group as representing what Christians are really like and what we actually believe. Crazy religious fanatics like these make the rest of us look bad and the unbelievers are easily lead to believe they represent the real followers of Jesus, the Messiah. I am glad his career is cut short so he cannot corrupt more people than he already has.

  • Webcams for home security
    R Rollin Shultz

For this woman's application I would suggest a very simple solution. Her door should as most doors do, have a peep sight. You can buy a camera that is ready made to mount over a peep sight in the inside of the door. with it's own screen. Barring that you can make one with a Raspberry Pi3 and camera and screen modules, or even an ESP8266 and same. Either of those solutions will also allow you to connect the video to the home network.

  • What is the big deal with WPF?
    R Rollin Shultz

WPF can become the next big thing if some really good developers decide to build some applications that are very GPU intensive. The only other way to create an application that can do realtime graphics rendering and 3D structures with texturing and lighting without WPF is to handle it with Direct X. Until some fantastic apps come out that only guys with wild rigs can run, WPF will not ever get used fully and show its glory. I plan to develop a 3D desktop to take the place of rainmeter, Jarvis and a few others as an all in one interactive desktop as soon as I get the extra time. But for now, bread on the table baby.

If you are in a hotel on an extreme budget, then OK, but in most cases, isn't it more beneficial and adventurous to go out into the city and meet the people and experience the food? If you can afford to travel, then you should be able to afford to take advantage of the local dining.

The category "Meeting" implies the attendees will listen to and/or discuss a topic. The category "Workshop" implies the attendees will engage in some form of hands on activity. A meeting is usually outcome based, while a workshop is usually learning based.

  • how do I insert word, pdf and text to sql database in vb.asp
    R Rollin Shultz

Because those documents can be large and contain images, you should consider storing them in a folder and just store the path string in the db, especially if your db budget is low.

That comment is way off the mark. These days electronic hobbyists are just called Makers and then there is Arduino. Radio Shack had a poor business model for retailing. They are agreat example of a company not able to adjust to the changes the internet made in how people shop for cheap electronics.

  • Why isn't there a category for MSAccess
    R Rollin Shultz

I had quite a bit of fun and a little agony creating databases which are indistinguishable from full blooded database applications. I found it very easy to develop beautiful interfaces which gave just as much or as little access to the underlying db structure as I do with ASP.Net and WPF. All well structured companies need products that can meet the needs of low budget customers so MS Access is likely to be around for a while, buy there are no real changes going on for the platform and there are already many resources out there for it and they already have much more to offer than would accumulate quickly here. You are better off using those resources.

There is NO perfect way to pick colors. My advice is to make friends with some artists, join some art forums like Behance or deviant art and make use of some of these talented people, because color sense is something you have, not something you can get. I usually ask my wife who is a Virgo and she can look at a strip of cloth or sample, go shopping and come back with an exact match. It's something they are born to do naturally.
