I agree with Mycroft (second time today) this is more of an art than a "do it this way" type thing. There are so many variables that there is no easy answer. I suspect that it works when you are logged in to DB2 as 'sa', because it attempts to use those same credentials on DB1, it will work since 'sa' also exists in DB1 with the same password. When you login to DB2 with 'XYZ', the same login will be attempted on DB1 and since 'XYZ' doesn't exist on DB1, the login fails. Session is maintained on server. So you don't need to worry about session time out. If the session is active and user close the browser, the particular session will automatically goes down when it reaches to session time out. I would spend my time optimising the query rather than worry about what happens WHEN the user closes the browser. The only way to make that happen is to write your own serialization code for the dataset. Frankly, I wonder why every newbie who sees XML immediately thikns it's a database. It's not.
