Yeah, that's the standard-reaction, you get the some one when talking about Visual Basic 6. Many a brownfield is a combination of those two :) Access empowered a lot of non-programmers to create small business-applications. It got abused as a server-database, and is still one of the better reporting engines (You'd only need to free runtime-version of Access and Microsoft Word) Yeah, they were great products in their time, and they still haven't vanished. I guess that they're like Windows, or Democracy. We know it sucks, but there is no better alternative available yet. I are Troll :)

Hi Cads, Don't let anyone tell you what to do or use in all aspects of life, and programming in particular.Just do or use what works for you. You can't telkl from the frontend what you're using. Hell, I wrote programs that use an excelsheet to store my data. Saves a lot of hassle. Just use access. It's a very good database ( well, it is classed as a database ) for storing simple values. I would only recommend a more professional database if you're planning on storing Megs and Megs of data and use complicated stored procedures. This isn't the case in your application so go for access. Another pro of using access is that it's just one file, where SQL or any other DB for that matter has to be installed, instances created, etc.etc. Lots of headaches and not user friendly. Stick with access.

We use the Infragistic suite which has a chart control. It is a bit of a ramp up on using it though. Once ramped up it has quite a variety of graphs types that can be utilized. Thanks thats the way I have implemented it now. I perform the purge whenever the application start method runs. The Server is shutdown at the end of each working day so it should purge once a day. Its a right bit of a bugger tho. Esp as I haven't been able to figure out as to when the application object is created if the path of the calling webform isn't in the root then it has the potential to create CSV directories allover the shop :-S I am using MapPath to get the Path name and it just picks up the current location. nightmare! :( lol I am sure is will come up with something tho :D Cheers For everyone's help esp Martin! :D Ian

Why not just return the columns you want in the first place? However, if you insist... you could either set the appropriate columns' width to zero, or else create a dataview with the columns you want out of the datatable and simply bind the datatable to that - there is no need to bind it to the datatable at all. No idea a day, better to go off project, But then it depends on the project, If you want a measure of work then go off the number of bug reports sent back by QA or Client (Yes low is better) Because I might one day do 1000 lines of pure brilliance :rolleyes: followed by one line that results in a function getting the wrong value and the system going in a nose dive along with my career. If it’s a website then someone loses there details due to sequel injection my boss gets fined or locked up and his wife and kids kill me on the way to work. Quality is better than quantity :)

The intellisense says that SelectedIndex is used to "get or set" the index of the selected item? cheers Ian

The error could be at both, sorry that doesn't help does it. If i do the (CONVERT(CHAR(10), dt_requested,103) as datetime) using the value 103 as the type which is the british datetime(what I want)then I get a convert error at the database level of The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value. when running my select on the view. If i do it using the american standard which is 101...i think... then I get the error at the app level because my app is using expecting dates to be in the british format. That make sense? The problem comes with the way the DateTime is initially automatically stored in the database as this is stored in the british format as per my localisation settings. I don't want to have to string format my dates whenever i use them so any help would be appreciated. Cheers Ian
