Hi Chris example is http://www.codeproject.com/KB/webforms/datagridcheckbox.aspx?msg=3625928#xx3625928xx The user is Das Robin (not DasRobin as I put previously) - it just seems odd behaviour for that user and that the sites point to a poor quality site it just seems wrong to let it pass Shaun

All I have just noticed what I consider to be a feeble attempt to boost (as in its search engine ranking) an IT Q&A site by commenting against articles hosted on CP. The links are coming from a user called DasRobin and are pointing to www dot itpian dot com It seems odd that the user has been inactive for 2+ years and then has posted 6/7 of his questions in the past 2 weeks 5/7 in the last 24 hours - account hijack perhaps? Regards Shaun

  • My faith in SQL Server has been knocked [modified]
    S Shaun Wilde

My thoughts exactly - for single inserts using INSERT/VALUE it shouldn't be an issue and it is rare you would use it to get the last ID of a multiple insert but in our case we had INSERT X (A, B, C) SELECT @A, @B, @C -- probably a product of an insert that evolved after many changes Easily changed to INSERT/VALUES style but not sure the parrellism would or would not kick in. Have to check the query plan

  • My faith in SQL Server has been knocked [modified]
    S Shaun Wilde

I'll say this now SQL (Server) and I have never been friends - there is something about it that grates with my OO brain; but I get by and I am determined to get much better. Now the rant. Been tracking a (unrepeatable, at the moment, bug in test - happens sporadically on live) bug in our system. Traced/reviewed all the code in SQL, BizTalk and C# moduled, all looks okay; code reviewed by many eyeballs and all involved puzzled. Started hitting google with random queries (usually coffee induced). Came across this article SCOPE_IDENTITY() sometimes returns incorrect value[^] scenario is very much like ours. WTF! SCOPE_IDENTITY() was one of my little comfort blankets when using SQL and now not even it offers the security I thought it did. Now researching the issue more thoroughly and going through the options suggested. I might start crying/drinking or both, if after testing/live the issue is resolved. [edited title due to CP pedantry]

  • Suspended for fowarding email joke [modified]
    S Shaun Wilde

Not I thankfully. A friend of mine got a grilling from their work for forwarding a joke (they received at work on the their work email) to their home address so they could read it later. Daft thing is they hadn't even read it and so didn't realise the content until they got home. Too late, the HR PC machine was in action and the mind police had to make sure everyone was talking the PC line. My friend assumed that because they received it on their work email it must be okay to forward on. For years they thought I was a miserable git for not sending on emails etc (now they know why). In these days where job security isn't the top agenda for HR departments, don't give them ammo to downsize/relocate/salary-adjust you. Two email addys, one for work, one for home, it's not hard folks.

  • MCTS Exams - why should I even bother?
    S Shaun Wilde

So would you actually get someone to do aa exam on your behalf just to get a job? The reason I didn't do any more MCP exams was because I found someone in the office with a set of answer papers and thought what was the point. The was supposed to be a big "lets get it sorted" thing going on with MS and exams/certs that are issued in their name, but looks like they have started looking the other way for companies to be so brazen about it.

  • MCTS Exams - why should I even bother?
    S Shaun Wilde

I was considering doing an MCTS exam in BizTalk; you know have the certificate that backs up your several years of experience, I haven't done any MS accreditation stuff for years. So I started a search and found these people Quick Cert Direct[^]. I can't believe it, "completed by proxy" == "cheating" in my eyes. I know people could download test papers; but at least to cheat they had to memorise the answers and something may actually sink in. Surely this behaviour just makes a mockery of any MCTS exam and makes them all worthless. I know if I now see MCTS on a candidates CV, I'll probably dismiss it or request the testing candidate number so I can check for myself...

    Q. So why did you do your MSTC BizTalk exam in Bangalore(*)?
    A. Errmmm....

Arrgghhhh - what is the point. I think I'll go and do Certified Ethical Hacking instead. (*) This was the first random place I could think of...

Who knows? Normally after HIGNFY or Private Eye start taking the mickey, UK.Gov normally manages to clean up any mess/scandal/stupidity pretty quickly. But in this case they seem to just be marching on. Maybe no-one in UK.Gov was watching that episode.
