I struggled at first to learn Fusion 360 (my 6th or 7th CAD system?). I found a great step by step tutorial on YouTube. I watch the video at double speed to get the gist of it, then follow along at home. After each step I stop the video and parrot the step. The devil is in the details! It's pretty easy - watching the video I press space, alt-tab to F360, do the step, alt-tab back to YouTube, press space to play. Rinse and repeat. This really helped me learn the important but sometimes tiny details required to get F360 to work.

Unit Testing... yay or nay?I really like using unit tests especially when I am working on some new algorithms. I can test instantly without firing up the GUI and entering the data manually. Helps me find the inverted logic and poorly managed edge cases (hey, sometimes I rush it a bit when I get excited!) Other people's unit tests have saved my bacon many times. "Well, this is an obvious bug that needs fixing" followed by failed unit tests has led me to learn a lot more about some seemingly innocuous code. I usually add comments so future devs don't make the same mistake, btw.

Dear Apple, Why do you hate grandma? My mom, a 92 year old grandmother, dreads every ios update pushed to her phone. Why do the Apple UI/UX people have to move EVERYTHING every time? Seems to me Apple has WAAAAAY to many UI/UX folks that need to justify their existence? Now, grandma is no slouch. We're talking about an early adopter here. She always gets the latest iPhone and loves it. Uses her iPad constantly. But the updates are keeling her.

Enquiring Minds Want to KnowWho in the name of Carmen Sandiego is the editor for the Code Project Insider Daily Developer News (insider@codeproject.com). The comments are 100 times better than most of the articles. True fact: I read the articles because the comments make me laugh. Take this little gem as but one example (bolded and underlined):

I have got to stop reading this newsletter when drinking my coffee. Now I need a recommendation on what to use to clean monitor screens.

A greener aviation alternativeWe already do. Modern jets are gliders that have just enough power to do the job safely and burn as little fuel as possible doing it. I would have sold my grandmother for a 1% fuel burn improvement when I worked for the local airplane company. Take the 787 as an example. It carries 33,384 gallons of fuel. It flies 7400 miles. That works out to .22 miles per gallon (worst case, no reserves). The 787 carries 330 passengers in a dual class configuration so that works out to 73 passenger miles per gallon. So, you and the spouse hop in your RAV 4 Hybrid and drive LA to NY and back, taking every side trip that interests you, and you'll use the same amount of fuel as your one way trip to Australia. Be warned, though. If you are driving at Mach .85 (650 mph) the speeding tickets will really add up. Also, gliders can't do go-arounds. So, no thanks. :)

How to make thing more complicated for nothing...Two devs and a deadline? Looks like the results of a yet another successful death march. Code works, mission accomplished.

Older developers - have you noticed a change in your sleep habits?Same here. What worked for me was: Working out after work but before dinner. Having dinner ealier. Eating less at dinner and smaller dessert if any, and fewer carbs late in the day. No caffeine after 1pm.

I wonder what will give me the best performanceHow do you get bored with a language? I don't care what language I have to use, it's all about solving the users' problems. That said, it sounds like you have the luxury of choice and want to learn new skills? No I guess I'm just jealous. Who's going to have to support this after you? Would JavaFX or Kotlin or other make this better or worse for them?

Young Indians should work 70 hours a week, says billionaire tech founderMost, many, some? Developers seem to generate the best solutions when they AREN'T at work. Walking the dog, or going for a bike ride, or pushing the kids on the swing and suddenly inspiration strikes. This doesn't seem to happen as much when you have a gun to your head to work insane hours to make your boss happy.
