EAGLE 7 was the last best version, after Autodesk took it on they butchered the licensing and made the software almost impossible to use offline. I would recommend KICAD, bit of a learning curve but worth it, another popular one is EASYEDA.

Nope, I think you might have asked me that before, despite the username I also don't work in a test department, which I think you were aiming at before too? Great minds I guess!

He also did the DOS compression (doublespace?) and various other Windows things, I think he mentioned Windows Activation and Zip folders, he mentioned he ported space cadet pinball to run on XP or NT/2000, and i'm sure there are loads more he has contributed, interesting channel especially for insights into MS back in the day.

  • CV's A question...
    T Test Tickle

I would say always highlight relevant skills first, it might mean tweaking it but so be it, put a personal statement at the top, perhaps add some key skills as bullet points below this. For how to detail changes to component level, well just put down that you have experience in obsolescence and part changes down to component level, if they ask you how you would manage this then say where applicable you would suggest a dual footprint on the design etc. Your CV can be generalised but tweaked and it is the cover letter that gets tailored to suit the company in my experience. Ensure that your CV does not span more than at an absolute MAX 3 pages, keep it shorter if possible but make sure it is readable i.e. don't put it at font size 6 to cram it all in, and make sure you use a decent font (no Comic Sans or Wingdings!) These would be my tips.

Would it not be more accurate to say ISA socket / ISA card (depending to which you are referring)? What was that small one "only designed for modems" apparently that suddenly appeared on mobos?

I think they were referring to TFS Team Foundation not Teams, Microsoft's source control offering rather than the chat app, built into Visual Studio, the old VB6 used to have one called Source Safe or something like that.

Yes and No. GIT works quite well, I do still prefer the older SVN/CVS though, but personal preference and all that jazz, I use it most days and you get used to it. Sharepoint, meh, marmite, you either love it or hate it, people use it for storage but I believe it was designed originally for document collaboration, I wouldn't go around replacing all of my NAS shares with it but for documents I guess it does what it says on the tin, as for organising I guess that depends how the people running the show are organising the folders, it *can* be made to be more intuitive than not, but you need someone who understands folder structures well enough to do it for you. Having most things cloud based means you can work from home more efficiently (unless you need access to specialist equipment / hardware), though i'd have no problem working over a VPN to an actual NFS, again, if you have a network department that knows what they are doing. Most i've come across, small or large corps do not, someone's cousins son set it up etc or someone is still trying to figure out where they can plug their 10baseT coax into.

  • Interviews in time of Plague...

I should imagine there are a number of companies' share prices "down the pan" at present, but furlough is nothing to do with share price, it's all paid by the government, it wouldn't cost your employer a penny! And if they won't furlough you then you are really better off out of it, the trouble is however if you are out of a job you'll struggle to find a new one whilst all of this mess is going on unless you get one in a "critical" sector or whatever they are calling it.

Might be worth asking even if you don't think it'll get you anywhere, you might if they refuse be able to take to small claims. Depends how good / loyal the company is to it's employees, from your previous posts they sound like a bunch of idiots, but anything is worth asking!

Hi, I saw a talk by Martin Lewis the money guy on TV the other day and he has said that if a company tries to make you redundant or just tries to get rid of you over this virus just ask them to put you on furlough as it won't cost them anything and you will have a chance to find (or try to) something without worrying too much about money. Might be worth a go?

  • Great, I think...
    T Test Tickle

It depends on your employer, but it is "great" for those who sell maintenance contracts, also those great features that say "coming soon" so you need a subscription or contract to eventually be able to have those great features. It is sadly one reason why many engineers do not make great business people.

I hope you are not saying you prefer Paint.NET over Photoshop?? I prefer MSPaint over Paint.NET, use GIMP or InkScape instead if you need free. Do they still include the standard Paint in Win10? I only ever found the Paint3D, so I copied the MSPaint.exe across from a 8.1 installation thinking it wasn't included...

VB6 wasn't a bad tool. I could do pretty much anything I needed to with it, there was a lot of business apps as well as things like assemblers, game emulators and useful utilities written in VB6. I'm sure at one point I saw a VB6 first edition of UnrealEd floating around. VB.NET on the other hand, well, you may as well use C#, I find converting VB6 across to C# quite therapeutic, I don't think I'm a sadist...
