  • Delphi GUI Programming in 2021?
    T TheRaven

Pascal/Delphi is still very active; I get newsletters from Embarcadero frequently. Visiting the sites and forums associated with FreePascal and Delphi both entertain a pretty deep audience albeit not being incredibly large like Python/C/C++ user groups they're still active & sizeable. Delphi gets annual updates every time C++Builder does unless the update is a language specific bug fix or patch.

  • Full Stack Developers
    T TheRaven

Most requests for full stack developers appear to be listed by individuals or severely limited groups. realistically, anyone whom could fulfill a full stack development position is most likely freelance and consultation operating at a premium contractual price point. Thus, the solicitation for full stack developers seems a bit misinformed and most likely based on a general classification trend. For instance, a full stack web developer should know some form of: web markup (HTML), a scripting language such as Javascript, generally proficient with 1-3 Javascript frameworks, a server side language like PHP, Java or Python with the requirements listing most likely continuing for anywhere between 30-50K annually. Truthfully, the base starting salary would be around 50K not 30K and the posting for positions are more accurately described as leads at this level. Job posting for full stack developers, based on what I've stated above amount to a waste of time; you're either going to get scammed (doing some work under the pretense of a testing or probationary period then let go), hook up with a startup that might mean well, but hasn't been thought through and will most likely fail within 1-2 years or you getting in with an indie group whom are green. Full stack is full of it period. Positions such as what is generally stated as being full stack is Lead or technician level, recapping. I avoid anything throwing around full stack.

  • "Linux is better thought-out than Windows"

Primarily the reason why I use Window's AV and have had issues in the past with McAfee after un-installation resulting in my computer being proliferated with Trojans and other malicious software and know others whom encountered the same. Regardless the discussion is flying off on tangents, but honestly [I don't and will not buy into the innocent, 3rd party blanket association]. Take care. There are white hats out there (awesome thing), but that's a veil for some.

  • Why Microsoft Disgusts Me Today
    T TheRaven

Honestly, I'm surprised the issue wasn't pawned off on the XBox App or Notepad developers; had an MSI issue with a "game" installer in the past and it was blamed on the XBox devs even though the game specifically targeted Windows having nothing to do with XBox anything. Feedback Hub & Insider programs need better filtration for isolation and then passed on rather than the inferred "the buck stops here" reporting services, front-end, desk jockey, cavalcade it persist to appear as. Had a few instances of error reporting sickness myself, so can relate unfortunately. Might explain why Microsoft was soliciting for "Insiders" previously as many have probably, like myself, decided to move on to other areas in our existence rather than awaiting canned answers or finger pointing placing blame on someone else's department. Blame != Professionalism (default) --there are exceptions to the rule, but generally (in the case of Windows error and feedback reporting) not too many.

  • Maybe old news, but... Outlook + gmail accounts
    T TheRaven

Could be that very easily. Web component fired up with a modified copy of the GMail login credentials page that requests your credentials mining you away to some dark net server awaiting response. Paranoia --cha, cha, chaaa!!! Security makes me angry anymore due to "lack of" rather than existence therein. Might be time to start shipping Wireshark with Windows, hunh?! Bit-packets are like trojan horses (figuratively and literally) and probably where the Trojan reference came from (most likely). Anyway, GMail seems to have a few changes that throw Outlook for a loop, especially considering older versions of Outlook in addition to mail account settings for trusted apps and all that Google interfacing stuff.

I can't remember the producer or the channel I saw the documentary/interview about McAfee (the man), but there were live Q&A sessions with him; I want to say it was a National Geographic documentary produced by one of their branches that research topics outside of geography & wild life. Regardless, was an eye opener --wish I could offer more help on the matter, but feel a search could reveal the video and feel it's a good hour or so spent. The vid is after the acquisition of McAfee, and McAfee (the man) is definitely convinced that someone or a group is out for his blood, but never definitively says why or whom skirting questions regarding the topics. Seriously, who benefits more from the continued existence of malware then those out to put an end to it (might be the reason McAfee is paranoid); amazing that every machine I say that had McAfee AV then decided to drop it was immediately infected with a critical virus within 2 weeks tops. AV could have been the first form of ransom ware for all we know. Something to think about. Anyway, was good chatting with ya!

Meant accessibility for policy management not specifically targeting UAC prompts with a focus on readability and more "user friendly" tools. As far as prompts --rather have those than ransom ware popping up on my Windows 7 boot screen (been there). And, no I did not know Intel purchased McAfee --says enough to me. Explains a great deal. McAfee the mad-man running wild in third world countries trying to escape a hit squad and now Intel rides in with Spectre, Meltdown and now a new laundry list of hidden goodies have been discovered plaguing all of IA land. Fantastic, and they own McAfee... Thanx for the heads up btw.

  • "Linux is better thought-out than Windows"

Amazing observation; more than an oversight, it's an issue most likely avoided as I'm certain that (OP), myself and many others have seen this and wandered what the deal is. DE and DM software generally run in a SuDo style mode with certain privileges one of which is shutdown & restart among others. One reason (or several actually) that most old hand system administrators prefer to run Linux & BSD systems via the prompt rather than installing anything like a GUI desktop environment --security concerns, stability (some apps may not function correctly without special privileges) and most times GUI clutters their workspace. Anyway, Linux like any other operating system is subject to developer over sight else we wouldn't need security patches and new kernels. Additionally, Linux is not better thought out than Windows it is implemented in a way that the particular distribution is laid out logically if anything. Windows on the other hand could still benefit from better directory structure and more "in-your-face" security and systems management for those whom not a current copy of the contemporary Windows System Administrator Guide on hand. Neither O.S. is close to perfect and the sooner everyone accepts the fact the sooner things can get rolling again toward better security and stability --right after we get away from Intel's Spectre-Meltdown platform (makes you wander if Intel isn't in anti-virus software investment portfolio somewhere in the shadows, hunh)... Good article regardless.

  • Google launches new search feature for easier long-term research
    T TheRaven

Share & share alike right? I prefer Bing datamining myself; get points for tracked searches, etcetera that directly translate into rewards diminishing the wh0r3s approach to "invading" other's privacy; the whole license grants impunity to the law regarding your personal information is borderline terroristic and criminal if subjugates any user to unnecessary, uncontrollable risk. Amazing that these "commercial" grade companies understand basic business law and liability; these companies assume control of tort on the behalf of everyone with a digital signature system granting them immunity from responsibility yet they're responsible enough to cash that check bordering if not explicating residing within the domain of incompetency. Explains why so many of these elite online presence wind up in federal and foreign trade court due to the fact that licensing may NOT replace or over-ride the individual's rights to safety. Don't see the need for search history being anymore than what it is currently considering the extensive logging that is Windows 10; am waiting with baited breath for the ensuing sh!t-s70rm that will inevitably roll out from the bowels of the Linux & BSD communities concerning Chrome & Google inclusively. One more brick in the wall. I can already hear a chorus of quacks as DuckDuckGo hits an all time high in user traffic and the open source Chromium skyrockets in usage when it drops the history logging feature at user request --it's going to happen.

With greater challenge comes greater rewards and often the greatest is satisfaction through accomplishment; commercial development has reduced to a level equivalent to cut & paste AGAIN so understand your points and pro-actively agree. R&D is still the venerable black hole it's always been; it draws the dollars and the talent into an inescapable orbit maintained exclusively upon creative thought fueled by the process with no beginning and no end --cyclic, self-serving, inspiration.

I do think that .Net & Java assembly/jar optimization would be an excellent expansion topic for a newer Code Complete for distributed framework design. Introspection & other methodologies would also bring considerable value concerning frameworks like .Net (C#) and Java focusing on built in service utilization through derivation & using directives appropriately. Sound something like what you were interested in? I see what your after --like supplemental documents that compliment the original text with cross reference as required. Makes sense.

    T TheRaven

Greek mythos, literally translated (concerning Athena) into the venerable Joan of Ark --seeing the similarities yet? Joan got burnt at the stake for heresy. We will see how this all turns out I'm certain. Intel being at the center of the table will have undoubtedly good results as well considering how open/transparent and competent they've been in the last decade. An old roman saying comes to mind --buyer beware. Can't say that I'm not curious, but also speculative/discerning; the name Intel jumped out as to say there's lead in the water pipes.

  • U.S. military trusted more than Google, Facebook to develop AI
    T TheRaven

...and this surprises anyone? It's scarier to think about how the fact would catch anyone off-guard. AI is excellent when watching Jeopardy, but the reality of the matter is: Skynet like spaceships are no longer fantasy, based on previous commercial control over security/personal related information exchange and constant catch-up with patching/hot-fixing argument has become fact in that Identity theft and viral/malicious code targeting AI platforms will occur. Robocop also comes to mind and how about Tron --remember those movies? Google is great, like many others in their own ways, but security demands more than commercial focus and commercial entities & investment groups are idiots in the field of security. Always connected & clod centric homes will become a battlefield eventually as is already starting. Facebook on the other hand --wouldn't let anything "Facebook" control or automate anything in my existence to include, but not limited to toilet paper dispensing. The fact that we're sociological addressing matters concerning AI relational to large, trend setting global companies with proven records in incompetency should raise coconsciousness regarding the current state of our 'digital social climate." :wtf:
