  • What framework is this extraordinarily obnoxious "Legitimate Interest" cookie screen, and are there any browser add-ons that defeat them?

I've always wondered if that legislation requires the user be asked every time they visit the site, and/or prohibit a site from storing their answers.

  • Please help make UI design decision
    T TNCaver

If the Alarms tab is in the Settings form or its form is visible while viewing the Settings form I would choose Option 1. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter unless being able to see the option in the Alarms tab would help the user understand what options might be available, in which case Option 1 is again preferred.

    fgs1963 wrote:

Are you suggesting that Windows apps are more or less secure than the OS

No, I'm suggesting that apart from where an app depends on the OS for security there is little difference between Windows apps and FOSS apps and how secure they are.

    fgs1963 wrote:

...servers, cloud systems, mobile devices, embedded devices, super computers, etc... the percentages and "monetary motivations" are completely flipped

And the instances of successful hacking attempts increased to match. The security of both OS's and their apps do not depend 100% on the code behind them; both are subject to phishing and other types of hacks. And the perceived security of Linux against malware is probably why the malware reported in the article remained hidden for so long.

I'd say that your whataboutism compares apples to oranges as far as the two OS's, and not true for the apps. The monetary motivation for hacking Linux is statistically irrelevant compared to that of Windows.

The claim that Linux (and all FOSS software) is more secure because anyone can look at the code and check for security issues begs the questions: does anyone ever actually check it for security issues, and is anyone with the skills and knowledge to recognize such issues checking it?

Ouch, that's tough. I hope he has a speedy recovery, and better luck. Your uncle's story reminded me of a Country music-based TV show back in the 70's called Hee Haw, with mixed comedy and music. One of the standard and repeated joke songs was a few fellows down on their luck singing, "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all, gloom, despair, and agony on me."

As you point out it depends on the tool used. I have a metal ruler with metric on one side and imperial on the other. Millimeters are more granular than fractions of an inch, and it seems like so many measurements go somewhere in between the 1/16th inch markers but are closer to the mm markers. I don't own any calipers...
