  • Tips for Code Reviewing Juniors in a Far-East Asian work culture?
    U Uncle Serge

My experience shows just the contrary: my ex-manager in an Asian company openly and flatly accused me in not knowing how to desing complex systems. I was a fresh joiner to the company, manager had in mind a new complex client-server system with about 1 page of very high-level description and told me to design it. Their business was new to me and he knew that. Something like "design something you have no idea what" :) And after I came up with a very generic and high level design, he harshly critised it for "lack of details". What an idiot :)

That's completely different thing. In such langauges it's just "a technical language issue", it's not humanizing things. BTW, "der Tisch" but "die Gänschen"

Completely agree! My PC is always just "computer", my car is just car and so on. And each of those is always "it". It's total nonsense to humanize such things, e.g. to say "my poor comp is tired - he had a hard day". What a rubbish! :)

  • Which platform?
    U Uncle Serge

Regardles of whether next OS will support Win32/C++ directly, in 95% cases C#/.NET is a way better solution. Several years ago I considered myself as a hardcore C++ developer (don't mix with XXX ;). Now, I don't know even a single former C++ developer who would wish to leave C# and return back to C++. C# is much, much more convenent. So, unless you're writing some graphics drivers, you better do it in C#.
