Same here with a certain security update, but it failed after 5 minutes, paused for 5 minutes and tried again. I have disabled some services to prevent auto updates completly. But after reading your post, I guess I will give it a try again. Wish me luck ... :)

Sure that works, but please, change it to log to windows event log or syslog. No new build allowed.
