    I would agree with you. Lots of complexity and promises. People will spend more time feeding this software instead of just developing the product.     I do. My current recipe is ⅓ caffeinated and ⅔ decaf. My body is accustomed to a certain amount of coffee per day, but my cardiovascular system can't handle all of the caffeine. I tried telling it "Hey! I quit smoking in 1991, what more do you want?" but it wasn't impressed. Software Zen: delete this;

Due to workforce reductions the last few years and the long development time for our products, I'm currently spending most of my time maintaining legacy stuff, little of which I wrote. This is frustrating, tedious, and boring. In one case in particular I have a profound need to find the original developer's grave and desecrate it after downing a pot of coffee. The last time I got to develop something new was back in November, and then the challenge was to implement a desired 'feature' in such a way that the customer's piss-off was minimized. I just :love: making my app do corporate CYA. Software Zen: delete this;

    I quoted what I was responding to... "The over regulation of our lives is getting absurd." If you meant that only to apply to building kitchens then it was not clear.

    Kent K wrote: because how could it not? That's a mystery to me - I don't understand it. I tend to stick with VLC as my player of choice, but I believe I got the same results with other players. Hard to tell, as - like I said - it tends to drift over time, so it's not like I sat through the same 2-hour movie multiple times just to see what works/doesn't work. The longer the content, the more obvious the drift effect. So it wasn't enough to just let a 10-minute clip play out with different players. And thanks for getting back to me on this topic. I got a lot of responses about the conversion itself, but nobody mentioned anything about the audio/video drift, which was my main concern. I've yet to start the process.

    Ahh, floating the gears. Nice. I used to do that on my old 80s something mazda pickup, for fun sometimes (only after using the clutch to smoothly start moving). Nowadays the only need for that technique is in my dump truck where that is required (again, after using the clutch to get moving) since heavy truck manual transmissions don't have synchronizers - so it's either floating them or double clutching, with the latter too much hassle).

    Hmmm, I just want a Hal-9000 avatar for AI. Very clever but... A friend did suggest Elon Musk used an AI to generate money on the stock market before it was banned..

    I'd argue that this is not about 'crypto'. this is really no different from other fraudulent companies, hedge funds or startups. There is more fraudulent 'low hanging fruit' because there are more uneducated people putting their money in. But honestly the amount of money being scammed in crypto is dwarfed by the amount of fraud committed by legit companies. If you watch the big short, you get an explanation of how the 2008 banking crisis was caused by those respectable banks and investment companies. A couple of Billion in crypto scams doesn't even register on that radar.

    what (empty catch blocks) actually is something I do not like, have already lost some precious time tracking down things done by people thinking it is not needed. M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

    It won't identify them, but it'll match them. Getting it to assign that value or print it out involves more code not related to regex.

    An investigation mystery. Presenter is Dr. Peter Dourmashkin. So which hand does he favor? Right hand. Look how he writes on the chalkboard at 3:58 in the following video. 8.01x - Lect 24 - Rolling Motion, Gyroscopes, VERY NON-INTUITIVE - YouTube[^] So with the video from the OP...starting as 0:32 (and 2:05) seconds in he writes on the screen. He is using his left hand. Also if you look at 0:08 he is also gesturing with his left hand. One might claim that he is just ambidextrous but it seems unlikely that he would gesture like that also.

    Possibly in this specific case. But I have several times on CP explicitly asking other readers what is behind a quoted link, stating that they do not want to follow it themselves. I doubt that all of these were jokes. It is difficult to know when what appears as carefulness is a joke and when it it serious. Religious freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make five.
