Thanks, Jerry, but all it tells me is that it couldn't start MSSQL Server; I already knew that. I downloaded and tried to install SP3 just in case it provided the missing entry point in the ums.dll file, but it caused the same set of errors. Installing MDAC2.7 worked fine, but I'll have to remove and re-install the SQL Server again without the service pack and leave it at that. Thanks again for the suggestions... They must feel it helps organize the drivespace for you. If it works fine, fine. As soon as it starts going flaky, slowing down, crashing, etc, first thing I'd do is repartition it into 1 partition and reinstall the software. BTW, we had a 6Gig drive arrive partitioned as 2+2+2Gig. Obviously they used FAT16.
It could be an indication that you're trying to open a recordset that is already opened. Being intermittent leads me to think it may be session related, or that some previous page failed to close myOutputRS before the current page tries to open it. What scope does the rs have, and is it by chance defined (and possibly opened)in a SSI file? I use Ultradev 4 and found the built in tutorial (for beginning) and on-line help (more advanced) very useful for all tools like DB etc... Unfortunately no help with ColdFusion or ASP coding though, only it's functions (creating recordsets etc) Paul ;)

What speed are the CPU(s)? There is a bug in NTVDM in CPUs >= 2Ghz. Microsoft have a patch but you need to request it from them OR if you want I can send it to you.
You, too? Still? I've been wanting to try a RAID5 array for a while, so maybe I'll go grab three extra drives and install them - give Win2K RAID management a workout and see what happens. At least then I should have plenty of space to back things up!:-D It is ok for women not to like sports, so long as they nod in the right places and bring beers at the right times.
