I agree - I've invited people to move several discussions from the lounge to r&r and I always felt I had to make clear I had no intention of ranting or raving, I just felt the subject matter was leading towards controversy. Michael Martin wrote: Christian Graus wrote: Everything prior to that needs to be read in their context, and everything after that needs to be read with an understanding of what Jesus did when He was here, and the history of the church. This seems like a Catch-22. How would you know the context without reading it first? Also how would you get an understanding of what Jesus did on Earth without reading it? Then I explained it poorly. Read the Gospels and Acts first, which tell you what Jesus said and did, and then the history of the early church. THAT gives context to the rest of the new testament which consists largely of letters written to the people you read about in Acts. The Old Testament is full of good stuff, but also contains a lot of commandments that applied only to those people, who lived prior to Jesus. Therefore, starting from Genesis is a bad idea, because it's especially hard going if you think the Law applies to you. Michael Martin wrote: I didn't get a response to my piss take email last night "Do you want a big tool". Did it not get to you or you didn't see the humour in context of the post you made? I got it, I laughed, I was snowed under and did not reply. I worked a total of 26 hours in the 36 prior and pretty much replied to very little before going to bed. Christian Graus wrote: This is not a criticism, just an observation. I'm astounded that you don't know such recent US history, do they only teach about the wars you won in US schools ? Frankly, in the U.S. elementary school is a complete and total waste of time. At the end of it, you come out with the knowledge of how to play well in groups (I think I missed that course however ;P ), do basic arithmetic if your calculator runs out of batteries, and... I'm trying to think... what else did we learn? Maybe some people need 5 years for that stuff, but I don't. Middle school is a lot better, as everything is broken up into definite subjects and you are given more responsibilities, etc. Testing is done well and on a regular basis, especially in history, math, and science (and optionally Spanish). And it's looking even better in high school, from what I've seen and heard so far. Regarding history, we get early civilizations sixth grade (e.g. Egypt and Rome), later world history 7th (e.g. the rise and fall of Islam, African civilizations), and U.S. history 8th (starting with early settlement of America). Unfortunately however, by the end of this year we'll be lucky to get through the civil war (doing industrial revolution right now), which kinda sucks. In my second year of high school I should get U.S. history over again, and then 1st 1/2 of 3rd year is titled "20th century world", which I assume would be what we're talking about. Dammit, the school system's too slow for me! :-D -Domenic Denicola- [CPUA 0x1337] MadHamster Creations "I was born human. But this was an accident of fate - a condition merely of time and place. Do you have a link ? Are they guidelines to avoid being accused ( which would make sense, Catholic priests molesting children is pretty much a cliche, and I'd think that while it's deserved in some cases, there would surely also be priests who would not dream of such a vile thing and would have to be aware of the possible accusation ), guidelines as to what *is* abuse, how to help people abused by others, how to abuse a child with the blessing of the RCC, what ? If I was the bear, I'd first squish the dumb frog, then take a huge rock and throw it at the rabbit's motorbike, skinning the rabbit, eating it [givin up vegetarianism forever] and then psyching myself back to heterosexuality and then having sex with a new girl-bear every 6 hours.
