My understanding is the 32 bit versions of Vista can't fully address 4 GBs
Do you mean that Vista cannot fully address 4GB memory chips? Or do you mean that it cannot fully address a total memory size of 4GB? I'm not sure about that sorry.. It might be more worth it to do as you have thought, and buy 2x1GB memory modules and 2x512MB modules.. Although this is only 3GB, this is probably cheaper if you are musing on buying either a 2GB and 1GB memory module, or say 3x1GB chips, although obviously it is dependant on your motherboard and the amount of memory slots it provides. With the processor, I believe that the Intel Core 2 Duo processors (E4400-E6700) are very overclockable.. I have heard people overclock the E4400 processors (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz) to 3.0GHz, with the system remaining stable and the processor temperature not exceeding 50 degrees celsius. However, I assume (I'm not sure) that the quad core processors are just as overclockable.. Also $70 is $70, and although it is quad core it is 266MHz slower.. and for the extra 2 cores to make a difference then you must be either running more applications, or running applications which take advantage of the increased amount of cores (through multi-threading etc). Another thing is that your motherboard must be compatible with the Intel Core 2 Quad range.. which most Intel-compatible boards aren't (most are usually compatible with the Core 2 Duos and the Pentium 4's). And, having Vista Ultimate, i have realised that a lot of things aren't compatible :sigh: I hope this helps and good luck with your choices! --PerspX
