I dunno. To be honest, Codeproject started out for me as an invaluable tool and repository of information as I learned my craft. It still is that, but I would rather see it return to its roots, and base itself on the provision of interesting and good quality articles. StackOverflow takes care of the Q&A style stuff, and any number of other forum sites can take care of the Trump-bashing, the Libtard-bashing, ranting about the Daily Mail, the NHS, climate change, climate change deniers... it's all devolved into the same pointless quackery and whataboutism. I agree with @ChrisMaunder in this; It has been dismaying to see, has nothing to do with the good intentions of the site, and reflects badly on it. I, too, have gotten sucked into stupid arguments from time to time, because it drives me nuts to see people who should be reasonably well adjusted human beings, with at least enough intelligence to hold down a job writing software, express what I consider to be ridiculous and idiotic opinions without saying a thing against it. I have a theory; Our profession, its attention to detail, the obsessive nature it fosters and rewards, actually turns people into maniacs when it comes to their opinions, being right on the internet, and generally not knowing when to walk away from an argument. This, I submit, is manifest in the Soapbox. I think the way the Soapbox has fostered degeneracy of this sort in the last few years is prima facie evidence that this stuff feeds on itself, sucks in energies that really should be spent elsewhere, and that we'd all be better off without it. Airing these opinions doesn't may allow people to "vent"; but the echo chamber just gets louder and louder and nobody gets anywhere. I understand your point of view on this, and IMHO, it probably conforms with a lot of your other views as well, if I might say.... ;P ;P  Basically, you think all forms of regulation are to be mistrusted and people should work out their own kinks. Fair enough, and broadly I agree with that principle. But this is not print media, or public access, or cable news, or anything that could be construed as public service, or an artifact of free speech. This is a programming website run as a private enterprise. I could take it or leave it, the Soapbox, but if 'twere me, I'd be more on the side of shutting it down, as I think it's just not making the site any better. Anyway. Just my 10 cents. One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I don't know.

You guys have been at it (at least) since Shakespear's time (expulsions). Churchill (and Roosevelt) didn't see a need to save those undesirables by bombing railroad tracks, etc. (actually, Eleanore Roosevelt did what she could - but that was a ship-full of refugees). It's a sad history. I see the BBC version of the news. Let's just say 'even handed' is not in their vocabulary - and the influence of it, on one end, the Guardian on the other, well - that's just what I mean. The EU's already infested with countries who want to boycott Israel. Local towns, such as in Ireland and Spain have even voted to do so. The Scandinavians consider killing a knife-wheeling killer an extra-judicial execution (per Swedish foreign minister). Meanwhile, China (for example) declares people criminals, executes them and harvests/sells their organs. The standard you speak of (effectively 'do it', they get over it) doesn't apply. It's also not the nature of the people - one of those biblical things about being fair to strangers (at least trying): 'do not oppress the strangers in your land for you were strangers in the land of Egypt'. Else, years ago they should have made it simple: we're tired of this - next attack and our first target is to toast Mecca; then Medina, then the rest of you - followed up by an explosion in the Mecca city limits - so they know that can do it. Peace? When the arabs/palestinians are held to the same standards as the Israelis they'll come back to the table. When they're told that negotiations do not start with 'give me everything I want or I won't come to the meeting'. When their leadership is held accountable for the banditry they conduct instead of using funds to help their peoples, and maybe most serious of all, when they stop raising their children with the belief that Israel has no right to exist and they should martyr themselves for this cause. Then, perhaps, peace talks can begin. If you eliminated 6 posters from the slopbox it would be almost empty. It seems to have devolved into US politics and the odd climate change post with you six endlessly going back and forth. For the rest of us the slopbox has become boring, you guys seem to be able to entertain yourselves. Never underestimate the power of human stupidity - RAH I'm old. I know stuff - JSOP

I have to agree with you, here. Been to Quebec: sucks. In fact, francophones, in generally, are a self-righteous group of bigots. Quebec, Belgium, and the and the seat of the pestilence, france, itself. What do you expect from people who's language doesn't count up past sixty (i.e., no actual word for seventy, eighty, etc.) - but a language that, itself, is dying. Bwaaah-haaah-haaah! Do you see? Co2 on it's own leads to very modest warming, and is beneficial to the planet. It increases growing season, reduces frost etc. If you are worried about the poles, then dont be, they are at temperatures of around -30 C, gaining 1C isnt going to make any difference except to summer melt in the arctic (where it can get quite warm), but it will refreeze again. And dont forget arctic melt has no effect on sea levels. This is fundamental to understanding climate change, this is purely physics, and is at the very core of the issue. You must understand without enhancement from an increase in water vapour, CO2 is not only safe it is beneficial. VERY beneficial.
