This is probably how they drive in Asia. I have been in Jakarta and Bali, and they drive in the same exact way. The bigger you are, the more priority you have. And you must honk all the time. -------- "I say no to drugs, but they don't listen." - Marilyn Manson

Precisely! :) I admit I wouldn't survive ten minutes driving in Bombay. After more than a quarter of a century of driving in the US, I get cold shivers when I'm a passenger in car in India. Although I don't know how much better Boston drivers are. :-D /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Music | Articles | Freeware | Trips ravib(at)ravib(dot)com

hehe indeed. I wonder if this correlates with the way that planes fill faster when the seats are left unassigned. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

One method that would seem to be much better to fill seats up on aircraft is to fill up from the window seats to the aisle seats. That way you don't get someone in the aisle seat getting there first, sorting themselves out, sitting down then having to move to allow a passenger at the window seat in. That actually sort of happens when the seats are unassigned. It really slows down if the plane is full because the middle seats go last and then lots of people have to move out into the aisle at roughly the same time causing a log jam of the last people trying to get on board. BTW, I saw a documentary on Channel 4 a few weeks back about safety on board Ryan Air flights. I sold my shares and refuse to use them.

Good idea except that couples wouldn't want to be boarding at different times. Mothers with children neither. You'd also get people hassling with the overhead storage, trying to get their bag next to their wife's/husband's etc.

Really? Are there any web reports on their safety? I'd think they were checked by the airline associations often enough? regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

Not as tough as you think. I am driving here in India after 10+ years in the US. I dont have problems driving in US/UK whenever I visit either. Its is weird how I can totally switch from being a maniac in India to a nice well behaved driver outside. :) And yes, low speeds keep the accident rates down.

There is no traffic system so you can drive as you wish. Whoever got better horn gets faster. One hand on the wheel and other on horn. ;) But the traffic mortality is way less than any other country. On Other hand in US where they have best traffic system with all the gizmos but still they have high traffic mortality in the world. So :thumbs up: for Indian traffic system. :) [Quick Reply][Reply][Email][View Thread][Get Link][Bookmark]

Far lower than in North America. Because there are no rules, everyone's careful about their vehicles. Also, there's no such thing as comprehensive insurance (we do take comprehensive and 3rd party insurance, but in practice they are not so), so if you crash your car, you pay for it. That makes people even more careful. Regards, Nish

That system actually isn't bad at all. I could handle that and would prefer it. Lights and high speeds kill people. At worst an accident there probably involves swearing, hand gestures and then hurrying back to work.

Shanghai also had traffic like this, but the speeds were mostly slow enough that people had time to react and get out of the way. Taking a taxi in Shanghai is never boring.

Possibly a speed thing? Nobody was going particularly fast in that video. How long does it take to travel an equivalent distance say down a city street in India vs. the U.S.? regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

at 25mph or 75mph at the same intersection in the states? ;) although rare (at any one time), it is still not uncommon to catch at least one person a day going 75 in a 35mph zone through here. Traffic signal meanings have changed over the years, currently: Green means go, Red means stop only if someone else is already moving, and yellow means you're entered into Nascar, behave accordingly. If traffic is stopped at a green light, but there is room in a turning lane, go around them, no need to find out why they stopped. Two or three Police have had to escort ambulences in some regions of NM because the police must block the intersections so that people will not dodge stopped traffic and enter intersections striking the ambulance at extremely high speeds. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau.
