Won't work. You will offend too many "genuine" users of the "lounge".

You may not have noticed, but offending people is not at the top of my Things To Worry About list.

Chris, you should come up with an orientation site that specifically spells out the rules of the site, and then requires the user to answer a short quiz to verify that they did indeed read the orientation material. Upon successfully answering all of the questions, the user becomes a certified CP user. Here's a list of proposed questions: -------------- 1) Where do you post programming questions (check all that apply)?     a) Not the Lounge     b) The appropriate programming forum 2) Can you post programming questions in the Lounge (check all that apply)?     a) No     b) Not only no, but HELL NO 3) What kind of posts don't belong in the lounge (check all that apply)?     a) Programming questions     b) Questions about programming     c) C++/C#/Pascal/Cobol/Java/PHP/ASP/PL1/Assembly/RPG/Fortran (basically, any programgram language) programming questions 4) If you're about to post a programming question in the lounge you should (check all that apply):     a) Not do it     b) Don't even think about it     c) Set fire to to your keyboard before you make that mistake 5) If you post programming questions in the lounge you should expect the following treatment (check all that apply):     a) Name calling     b) General insults regarding parental heritage     c) Suggestions regarding your diminutive IQ     d) Physical descriptions that include the phrases "sloped-foreheaded"         and "open-mouth-breathing"     e) Observations that include your inability to funtion independantly in         society outside your asylum dormatory without having         someone hold your fucking hand ------------- Other users are hereby invited to contribute to the quiz...

Failing that, how's about a sticky thread at the top for answers/links to all the FAQ: 1. I am uploading a file to my server, <unspecified> something went wrong... 2. I have bound some data to this control, why's it not working... 3. I'm new to <Insert programming language>, can anyone tell me how to connect to a DB / display a textbox / create a cross platform dynamically built CMS for 100000 concurrent users? Pls supply code....

Barring the driver's license idea, maybe you could come up with some code that tried to determine if a post is a programming question, and take a ppropriate action. Some ideas about appropriate action would inclue: 1) Change the text of the message to say "I promise to never again post programming questions in the lounge." 2) Change the text of the message so that all of the words start with the correct letter, but all other letters are substituted with asterisks. 3) Post a cartoon charicature of someone with their head up their ass, and then labelled "I posted a programming question in the lounge". 4) Post a cartoon charicature of someone with the head in a toilet with the caption, "I think I musta lost my brain in here somewhere..."

ooooh, I like that one. Then, when he invariably complains about the site's lack of responsiveness, we can tell him it's because the site is being bogged down by programming questions being posted in the lounge. LOL

That's dangerously close to a programming question. :)
