They have a life-sized cardboard standup of Bill Gates, and every once in a while, they kick it's ass.

Well since it was damaged outside of warranty, I couldn't have it repaired, and since it was pointless having an mp3 player that you couldn't hear anything on it, I suppose I got my use out of it and still have the use of the hard drive. You'd be supprised, i've been bored witless driving to work, so I did infact plug my headphones into a laptop that i took to work and listened to music. Needless to say it didn't last long. Gav

How easy was it to get inside the mp3 player?  Surely you could've (or someone you knew) soldered the socket back on (unless it ripped the board apart).  But then again I've been taught and picked up skills from my father who can repair absolutely anything (or if it's beyond repair, design a better one) :)

As of how to accomplish this I wouldn't have a clue at the moment and I'm too lazy to google it

I am more excited about the commercials Mac will put out. - "Hi, I am an iPod" :sigh: - "and I am a Zune" - "I play music that can be downloaded from out iTunes store. Don't try copying it to more than 5 machines though, that's a breach of your contract with us. And don't even think to make it a format other than our proprietary ACC format. You may have bought it, but you don't own it. In fact, we own you. But hey, we make you look cool and pompous by giving you the priviledge to rip Microsoft." :wtf: - "And I make a great paper weight or recording your dictations" - "I am kooky cool and won't your friends be jealous of you carrying me around!"

Microsoft + MTV ? it'll start out as being 'all about the music'. after two years it'll be all game shows about music. in another year, it'll be all game shows and celebrity gossip.

To be honest, I'm not sure why I didn't do that, at first I thought ah i'll loose my warranty or I'll completely break it, but since taking the hdd out, what difference would it of made. It was basically a small pcb with a laptop hdd connection on the end, undo 4 screws and it came out. My dad is the same, but with his age, his hands aint as good as they used to be. Gav

Are you referring to Linux's ability to run on an iPod?

Just the bittersweet irony of one of Microsoft's products using Linux rather than some variant of windows ill suited for the task.

I guess my point was lost on you. I wasn't going after anything specific other than I hate Macs, especially their crass commercials. Steve Jobs is a job. Someone should pick up that egocentric terd and drop him on the border between Israel & Lebanon (if you could find it today) with a Star of David on the front of his t-shirt and a swastika. I'm not fond of their new commecrials either, but what is actually wrong with you? Rather than plotting killings go see a shrink... Apple is about choice, so you have a CHOICE between them [Apple], and a generic PC such as a DELL or HP, or you can build your own where you pick your own chip, motherboard, video card, etc. and have it run linux... *Bursts into song* "Freedom of Choice" by DEVO, to irritate you further* Roswell;P

Zune Schmune. that classic "what if MS sold the iPod" short is all you need to know about the Zune. when is Microsoft going to do something that isn't a copy of what Apple released three years before ? i know, why doesn't MS just buy Apple and turn it into their R&D department!
