Agreed. My mother-in-law occasionally makes liver and onions. It smells great, looks good. One bite and X|.

What you talking 'bout? There ain't no aliens here in Arizona. :) Congratulations on becoming a citizen. It's wonderful to be part of one of the greatest nations on the planet. It's also nice to know you're planning to vote. Now we can blame you for our elected officials. :)

More like a national day of mourning :((. Last year I paid more in federal income taxes than my entire salary the first year after I graduated from college .

I mean no offense, but why would you want, or need, to be a US Citizen? As one myself, I'm ashamed of this country and the way we (in general) treat the rest of the world. BTW, I've spent about 10 years in the past living outside the US so I think I have a somewhat outsider's viewpoint.

Then perhaps you should consider taking up citizenship elsewhere. There are no perfect nations.

Mmmm - that's one of my favourites. As long as it's pigs liver, thinly sliced & floured and flash fried, it's gorgeous. Congrats on becoming American, Rob!

started the day as an alien, finish it as a US Citizen :cool: Now to register to vote, update my record with Social Security and enjoy a celebratory dinner with my wife! :)

Welcome! You're now every bit as American as the rest of us - everyone here is from somewhere else. Now get out there and chase that American dream! :-D

Ah, a true expression of the principles of freedom of speech. When ones opinion is not agreeable, don't seek to understand or open the mind, simply curse and dismiss them. BTW, Hell is in Michigan. Been there. ;P

Yes, this was the response I was expecting from someone. If you don't agree with us, then get out. To hell with acceptence and tolerance of other views. I think peter chen's reply was on the money.

Congratulations, Rob! May you always remember the feelings you had today, and continue to exercise the responsibilities as well as the rights that citizenship provides with the same grace, calm and reason that you clearly are showing here today. Regards - Trish

Having US citizenship makes it easy to travel/work around the world. That's a good enough reason for people to try and get a US citizenship :-)

Then explain to me how my comments, by starting with I mean no offense, are rude, and why my opinion should be in the soap-box while yours, calling me rude and ignorant, are worthy of the lounge.
only two letters away from being an asset
1. Your comments express a political opinion about the quality of this country, one which is contentious, and certainly not held by many others. As such, it belongs in the Soapbox. 2. Introducing your remarks with an appology (" I mean no offense") clear shows you knew many might well take offense, but felt your words were too important to remain unsaid. 3. If not rude, at least quite inappropriate. Tantamount to calling Rob M. an idiot for actually choosing to become a citizen. 4. If you don't like things as they are, get out and do something about it. Don't just sit around and whine; doing so just makes you part of the problem, not of the solution.

Rubbish. Where was his personal attack on you? He said that he was ashamed of his country and the way that it has treated the rest of the world i.e. it's simply his opinion which he is both entitled to and free to state. Now, if you take it as a personal insult that somebody could possibly think that there is anything bad about your country, that's really your problem. His post simply stated his opinion, with no intent to offend (as opposed to yours).

And my objections are to the inapropriate place and time for thos comments, not their content. As you say he is entitled to his "the glass is half empty" opinions, but it is not appropriate to express them in response to a post celebrating becomming a citizen of that country. Even if introduced by a disclaimer, his comments are tantamount to telling Rob M. he thinks he's a fool for choosing to do so. At best a wet blanket, at worst an insult.

I'm glad everyone in the US isn't like you. In fact I'm glad I have never actually met an American like you.
