Vista FUD

I am so tired of reading negative reviews of Vista by self-proclaimed "experts" who say that Vista is nothing but a new UI slapped onto XP. The ignorance demonstrated by such a view is just too much for me to bear. :sigh: And this type of nonsense is very frequently perpetrated by people who should know better, like enthusiasts such as gamers. Comparisons to OS X really get my goat when people point out that OS X was there first. Is Microsoft just supposed to close up shop and go away because OS X had some of these features first? When people point out that OS X had some of these features first, I just feel like saying, "Yeah, and what's your point?"

This argument is getting tired also. What can you do with a modern automobile that you can't do with one from the 50's? The one from the 50's accelerates, stops, and turns. Can a modern car do more than that? No, a modern car does basically what a car from the 50's can do. Does this mean a modern car is not a better alternative than one from the 50's?

Windows XP is bad. My drivers are not working, then I cannot print, scanning documents, etc... my video card have not updated drivers, then I'm looking my screen now with 800x600, 16bit. No problems... if the I have not purchased that expensive games what requires a lot of resolution, performance, etc, etc. Ok, then lets throw off the games and start to work! I will install Visual Studio and... and... incompatibilities? Ok, some software vendors maybe not updated something to new Windows XP, but, wait? Visual Studio is from Microsoft! So... maybe I can listen some music! I will turn on my speakers and.. what? What this singer is talking about? "Delete My document files"? Noooooooooooooo........ Ok. I'm tired. I will remove Windows XP and re-install Windows98... :zzz:

They could probably bind that into a fair sized book. Not really a concise list of major new features, but in fairness I don't think there are very many of those. Vista appears to be a large collection of cool, but small, enhancements rather than something which brings anything major and new to the party. Like everyone else, I'll eventually buy a Vista box. I think the thing I'm most curious about is how usable the speech recognition is. I've been talking to my computer for years. It would be nice if it could offer the appropriate response. :)

Vista appears to be a large collection of cool, but small, enhancements rather than something which brings anything major and new to the party. Like everyone else, I'll eventually buy a Vista box. No biggie. :) It's kinda like the Wiki that Ryan pointed me to. There's a ton of incremental improvements, without a doubt. However, to install Vista I really need to buy a new box as I have to count on my other machines to be up and can't afford to experiment with them. So, I was looking for that new Killer App feature. The speech recognition seems pretty cool. I just don't know if it's enough to pry my wallet out of my pocket for a new box just yet. Heaven knows the temptation is there. :-D

Just because one is an enthusiast or a gamers does not also imply that they are an expert on Vista.
