Do you mean, work 7 days one week, get 4 days free the next week (where you only work 3 days). So basically work the weekend for one week, and take 2 extra days off the next one.

I wouldn't like that. If I only worked two days in a row, and then had five off, I'd never get anything worthwhile done. Everytime I went back to work I'd be totally lost as to what I was doing five days ago.

I really hate the concept of working only 8 or 9 hours a day. The day is ruined, face it, why not just work 14 or 15 hours, with long breaks and happy hours, and have a 4 day weekend. I work really long nights sometimes, non-IT, and it's lovely. You exhaust yourself for a couple of days, but you usually only need 1 day to recover from this. Of course this is not really compatible with having kids... or a life...

Well, if I worked for someone, I would rather have 4 tens but if the project is exciting enough, I might not want that many days off ;)

Five six hour days (with no lunch break) is enough. No company would let you do that because capitalism sucks but I don't usually code more then six hours in a day no matter how many hours I'm in the office.

Assuming a 30 day month, I'd do this :- work 6 days 1 holiday work 6 days 1 holiday work 6 days 1 holiday work 4 days 5 holidays That'd allow me to take a decent holiday (5 days) every month. And I never have to work more than 6 days at a stretch. The company ends up with 22 working days a month, which is what they currently get too. It's a win-win situation :-)

Well, I work 7 days a week right now and don't have time to get everything I want to get done. So I guess I'd go for a 10 day work week between weekends. /ravi

I actually like the 5-2/4-3 method, two weeks, 9 days of work, 5 days off including one long weekend. It gives me at least one friday off to run errands that need weekday hours. Very handy for doctors appointments so as not to miss work.

My current employer is very flexible--as long as you work a 1/2 day you do not need to take vacation time. So I can take the afternoon off (I'll be leaving today at 3pm) to go to the doctor and it's no big deal. My boss leaves early to go golfing. As long as the work gets done no one really cares. That is a HUGE difference from my last job because even though I was salaried people had a fit if you weren't in your chair at 8am to 5pm. So if I want a 'long weekend' I can leave early on Friday. We don't really take vacations so having big chunks of time off is not a big deal to us. I am saving my vacation time to go back to Australia next April.

I really love the 5 days work and 2 days free. This gives me plenty of time to do fun stuff and regain the necessary energy needed to do my job good.

I also have issues with the 24 hours a day. Ideally for me: Sleep for 8-10 hours. 2-3 hours for my time getting ready. 10-15 hours of steady work with a 2 hour lunch in the middle. 5-7 hours of my time. Which becomes a 27-37 hour day. Then I'd like to do that for 4 days, with 3 days off (also with the 27-37 hour days). The day is just too short. When I've got the juices flowing I want to stay coding. That takes me up to around 2 - 3 am alot of times, but then I'm rushed to get into the office the next morning, which kills the day due to being too tired. The day is just not long enough. Now to fit it into 24 hours. Its more like: Sleep 5-7 hours, 1 hour shower, fly into work driving through for coffee. Work 6-15 hours depending on load and the juices flowing. Eat wind down, and sleep. 5 days of that, and 2 days of recovery, I end up feeling like I don't have a weekend. So, ideally I'd work 4 grueling days, one and a half to recover, and one and a half to feel like I have a life. The 9-5 is just too artificial. Sometimes my best work is done at 2 am. Too bad we made life about productivity instead of productivity about life.

For me I'd like to do the four on(10-12 hour days) four off. This way I can get what I have to get done done and still have ample time to unwind/recharge and do something fun before going back to the 'grind':->

I just left a job with that same schedule. While the 3 day weekends were nice, I realized that the only thing about the job that I enjoyed was the time off. I'm working a regulare 8 hour day every day now (with 1/2 hour for lunch) and you wouldn't believe how short the days are! :cool:
