I think this falls under user error. Did you check to see if you had write permissions to the folder. I have never had a issue with copy and paste in vista

So, I open up a folder on the Vista box, right click on a subfolder and select "copy" I open another folder on a different machine. Right click. Paste is gray. Repeat. Same result. Repeat. Same result. Hmmm, but I can drag and drop between the two folders without any problem. Is there some reason I should continue using this OS, when basic copy and paste folders doesn't even work? The issue is that this happens with supposedly certified drivers. Driver certification has become meaningless in the vista era. For as long as vista was in the works, it a crying shame that MS and the vendors didn't do a better job.

Insert long and highly detailed post from Jeffry Brickley about how people like him convinced MS to change the driver model at the last minute to allow native OGL support largely forcing nVidia and ATI to restart from scratch with their development here. Blame him, not MS.

The explorer in Vista is beyond crap. :( So is the control panel and almost every other configuration dialog (except the old ones). I'm beginning to wonder what the hell Microsoft was thinking. I mean.. it is crap! It doesn't matter much how well the kernel guys did their jobs - the UI is horrible, horrible, horrible!!!

Nope :) I blame MS for the OGL thing in the first place, what an incredibly boneheaded move that was. Btw, I develop OGL software so I was one of those 'petitioners'. What made it more boneheaded was everyone was lobbying MS to correct their error in judgment as soon as it was announced. Yet they waited a very long time to make the decision.

where was it that i read that MS gave a patch/fix for their copy/cut/pasting over partitions fix, but you had to call in for it as it's still unofficial :P once Vista SP2 comes out, then i'll rethink upgrading. currently XP SP2 for my work needs (.NET Developer) / OpenSuse 10.2 for my home needs)

It's there for a reason. In Vista Icon sizes in the Explorer list view are more or less continuous. Small Icon: 16x16 Medium Icon 32x32 Large Icon : 48x48 Extra large: 256x256 (128x128 not sure) Vista also supports Icon sizes 18x18, 20x20, 22x22 etc So the slider allows for the continuous selection of icons sizes that are between small - medium or medium - large or large - extra large.

they aren't arranged large to small. and much more changes than icon size when you go from List to Details to Tiles.
