I'll be curious to see what it looks like since it supposed to be based on the Eclipse rich client framework. It would be nice if they could get search to actually work in some fashion more impressive than what an 8 year old might code.

It's supposed to be a vast improvement, usability wise, over earlier versions.

X| All that busy-ness and the only command container you get is a menu. E-mails as sub-tabs? Has kind of a pretty scheme too it. Seems like only the graphics guys did their jobs.
I agree, the scheme looks good, but it doesn't seem to have the least bit of an intuitive layout. It's like anything else: it needs to work before it needs to look good, like a sports car for instance: it gets boring fast if it can't even move.

I used Notes briefly about 7 years ago. My impression was that it was much more powerful than Outlook but that its usability sucked big time. It's one of the main reasons why Microsoft is so dominant. Despite our continual moaning about Microsoft, its products tend to look pretty and be easy to use. Competitors are frequently ugly ducklings. Looks matter.

It's one of the main reasons why Microsoft is so dominant. Despite our continual moaning about Microsoft, its products tend to look pretty and be easy to use. Competitors are frequently ugly ducklings. Looks matter.

I too used it several years ago, as a mail system it was just OK. As a collaborative workbench it was excellent. And it was a good start on helping to develop an enterprise ethos whereby corporate memory did not walk out the door when someone resigned or retired. As a development environment it was awful. Post modernists preferred Outlook (form without substance), pragmatists and modernists preferred Notes.
