I'm always early, in the office at 7:40am for an 8:00am start - have to leave home at 6:20am though :-(

Slacker. I leave home at 6:00 a.m., arrive at work at 6:20. I don't go out the door until 4:00 or 4:30, though :sigh:.

I'm working in the IT department of an hotel chain. The whole work is made using Microsoft technologies (C#/ASP.NET/SQL Server ..) We're working on a new project since June. I see that I'm going good as I did all the tasks that I was asking for in time. But I'm having a problem, I've never been in regular time :) never came at 8 o'clock, always 8,30 - 9 sometimes till 9:30. Are you used to be late ?

Our time is from 7:30 am to 4:30 am. but I am in around 7:35 usually and out around 6:00 (nowadays, otherwise was leaveing around 7:30). But my salary is getting cut when i cross the limit or 5 grace or 2 late marks (=1 half day).

Erm I'm with you, Originally my hours were 9.00-5.30 which I was never making on time, esp if I caught public transport. So after a year my boss sat me down and asked if I wanted to change my hours to 9.30-6. Was a bonus for me cos I would never leave b4 7.30 anyway!! :-D

My normal hours are 8:30 to 6 and i try to stick to it, good time-keeping is more important for back office staff than for front office which is fair enough because our front office are normally working all hours even weekends. Try to be in on time but sometimes late because of rubbish train operator and try to leave no later than 6:30 again because of rubbish train operator but do work on the train on the way in and out.

I start anything from 06h00 to 10h00, and leave between 18h00 and 20h00, but always try and average 8 hours.

We are on a honor system here and can work pretty much any time we want. I try for 9:00am but take a bus. Sometimes they meet up well and I get here at 8:50 sometimes not and I get here at 9:10. It roughly works out, plus I take my lunch in the office so am answering questions when I'm not being paid.

Time? Office? Work hours? I don't understand these concepts. I work out of my home office and work whenever I feel like it. When on a project, typically 8:30 AM until 2:30 AM - yes, both AM. Break as needed for refreshments  , entertainment, power nap  , and to irritate the missus :rose:. Weekends & Holidays? What are those? I shoulda kept that desk job! :((

Doesn't affect me. I'm the boss, so I define my own hours - mainly because I do so much outside of the office.

That's not fair for the people you work for. You need to set an example. My Boss is late almost everyday, and it irritates the hell out of me. It doens't matter how much you do outside of normal hours you need to be there every day on time. I get called to do work outside of normal hours but I'm still at the office, 15 minutes early, everyday.

As a contractor, I make my own hours - unless someone schedules a meeting. I could work from home, but I'm reserving that for bad weather or broken mass-transit. As a morning person, I catch the 5:35 AM commuter-rail and start at 7:00 AM, which is after ca. 20 minutes of miscellania that conduct when I actually get in (6:40 +/1 5 min). Payback? 4 9.5 hour days and a half day (at most) every Friday.

I technically start at 9 and finish at 5 but I have an hour and a half commute (lousy temporary living arrangements). Most of my work is reading anyway, so I have permission to leave home at 9, read on the train, leave work at 3:30 and read on the train some more. Mmmm, academia.

Being late is wrong. I have been in middle management positions where it was my responsibility to cover for people who couldn't make it in on time.(non computer related, of course) I have a friend who has made an art of being late and she gets away with it because she is the only one with any real training in her (medical) field at the company. So you gotta asks yourself, "Am I indispensible?" I keep thinking, someone with her training, willing take less money and would be on time, comes along and she's out of a job. {From your posts grammer,or lack there of it, are you sure your even qualified? lol} Just kidding, you sound a bit nervous. I use to ride the bus to an old job, with over 1/2 mile of walking (which isn't much, I know), since the bus would some times get me there late, I had to ride the bus that came 1 hour earlier. It got me there 35-45 minutes earlier than the other bus would. It drove me nuts, but that's life! How important is this job? Do you have another you can fall back on? What will your Mother/girlfriend say? Face it, being on time is important. BTW: I work alone at home. I even kid-sit while I do it. So the only way I'm late is when I sleep in. :) But, I'm never late for my appointments. 15-25 minutes early. Always. It's called integrity.

Normally the works starts at 9:00. 9:35 is the last tolerated time. I rarely arrive before 9:30. Few times (ok, ok, 1-2 days a week) I am late about 10-20min max. Pretty good, isn't it? When I was at university, I ignored pretty much all lectures starting before noon. But then again, so did most of computer science lecturers :)

It's not about the hours that you put in it's what you put into those hours. I hate offices were people get kudos for being in extra early and leaving late. It should be about what you produce and the quality of your work.

It doesn't bother you that you've given almost your entire waking life over to work? Surely it bothers your SO/friends...

Our time is from 7:30 am to 4:30 am. but I am in around 7:35 usually and out around 6:00 (nowadays, otherwise was leaveing around 7:30). But my salary is getting cut when i cross the limit or 5 grace or 2 late marks (=1 half day).

Do you get extra salary for working longer, or just less salary for working less? It'd be unfair to dock people for arriving late but not reward them for arriving early/leaving late.

It sure bothers my girlfriend and it does sometimes makes me warn out but for the most part I love my job.
