What would YOU put in the LHC?
-
I woke up this morning after dreaming about the LHC. I have no life! But I was thinking - it's really big (why isn't it the RBHC?) but they are just smashing particles together.. or so they tell us. In my dream we were putting all sorts of stuff in there. The only one I remember was Pizza. Two pizzas at near light speed .. WHAMMO .. and the cheese got into he magnets, and that was the end of that. So, in the interests of wasting a few minutes - what would you put in the LHC, and why?
Take a chill pill, Daddy-o .\\axxx (That's an 'M')
In the interest of saving what little relationship there is at work with another member of the team... You'll forgive me if I don't say it outloud and just smile. :) :-D My morning did get brighter.... but off to work I go...

My question is, was the Helium leak really an accident? I think not. Some guy thought it would be cool to talk like Mickey Mouse for a bit and left the valve open ...

They're well ahead of you. They already run particles in both directions. You get asymptotically closer to the speed of light. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velocity-addition_formula[^]
Today's lesson is brought to you by the word "niggardly". Remember kids, don't attribute to racism what can be explained by Scandinavian language roots. -- Robert Royall

I hear they're already planning the VLHC(Very Large Hadron Collider) for 50 years time, so that would be the RVBLHC(Really Very Big Large Hadron Collider) :o If it were up to me, I'd smash pigeons. ...or maybe 2 Higgs Bosons!

*You* can't be. No object with nonzero mass can reach the speed of light (in a vacuum) without an infinite input of energy. Any mass less particle (photons) can only travel at the speed of light (in the medium they're in). They don't experience time at all. Absolutely zero time (in the photons frame of reference) passes between emission and absorption.

Fairy cake and a really, really, strong brownian motion generator (such as a cup of tea).

The idea of a particle being massless is unintuitive and unacceptable to me.
That's probably one of the least unintuitive things about quantum mechanics. :)
I can imagine the sinking feeling one would have after ordering my book, only to find a laughably ridiculous theory with demented logic once the book arrives - Mark McCutcheon

That's my take on it, the God/Higher Power that created quantum mechanics is an a**hole.

Actually, I'm not sure our species is capable of understanding it all. :sigh:
