I assume the salt suggestion is a humorous reference - that I don't get. In case the anyone else is as dense as I am - salt is absolutely to worst thing you could use if you hope to recover the phone. It will promote corrosion. IMHO the best chance of recovery after dunking a phone is to remove the battery and as soon as possible dunk the phone in iso alcohol (not drinking alcohol) for ten minutes, then dry for several days. Iso alcohol is frequently used for cleaning electronics and will displace most of the water. It also drys quickly w/o promoting corrosion. Good Luck

What happens if he accidentally washes that one as well??

I wouldn't recommend he do that. If he does he should try a land line telephone, they are usually difficult to get into the washer due to being attached to the wall outlet.

Yes, that's a good point. I think this should be included in the user manuals.

Is there a slight chance that it will still work after drying out? If yes, is it possible for it to work better than before? :) Waiting patiently ...

I accidentally ran my daughter's cell phone through the washing machine. I disassembled it (battery, SIM card, etc) and let it sit out for a week. It powered up and still works. One thing I did hear was to put it (disassembled) into a jar of rice and let the rice draw out the moisture. My two cents.

Immerse the whole handset into a bowl of uncooked rice, it should soak up any water residue and moisture...dunno about the timespan...perhaps for 24 hours?? Wouldn't use salt or anything like that...in case you corrode the electrics... ;) Hope this helps, Best regards, Tom P.S: Damn...a few others got the suggestion out before I did :-D .... oh well... apologies for duplicating the 'rice' posting...

rinse and stick it -- in a bag of uncooked rice. This acts as a desecant, sucking the moisture out. // edit // Let me be the first to congratulate me on posting the idea fourth.

Yess !! There are still chances  But if you tried to check it is working or not by switch it on after it get wet then forget you beloved cell. :( Never switch on the phone after it get washed away. :| if you switched on the phone it will short circuit the internal parts which are still wet. Just keep patience until it get dried. and that will take an entire week. So just pass out that period. :) let it dry naturally or put the parts in the uncooked rice. Rice will sock the moisture. Then try to switched on the phone if still its not working then give it to authorized service station ONLY. Don't give it to any local repairers.
