EID Greetings to All Muslims

Paul Watson wrote: Well if Christmas is not the celebration of Jesus' birth then why the hell do I get ropped into going to church on Christmas day and seeing the nativity scene hmmm? You get roped into going to church because they are misguided. It Christians where intended to celebrate Jesus' birthday, it would say so in the bible. Instead, we are to remember his death every first day of the week when we partake in the Lord's Supper. Christmas didn't originate in Christianity, it started when the Catholic Church tried to convert some party lovin' pagans like James said. Christmas is a shortened form of Christ's Mass (Mass, another invention of the Catholic church completely unknown in the Bible). Christmas is fine if you take the "Christ" out of Christmas. I celebrate it as a day for family and giving gifts, not as the birth of Christ. Jason Gerard "This almost never matters, except quite often."

Paul Watson wrote: Well all of what you said is pretty much why I don't buy into all this Church going, Bible reading, good little Pop Culture Christian scene. Most of it is constructed by humans simply for control and power gain with little or no relevance to what it is all actually about. Yes, in the past Christians where persecuted and killed for professing their faith. Today, Christianity has become some what of the "in" thing. This is unfortunate actually b/c these people are doing it for the popularity, or the friends they'll make, not in service to God. But their are people and congregations who are in it for what it's all about. Don't give up on it because of the actions of others. Jason Gerard "This almost never matters, except quite often."
Jason Gerard wrote: Don't give up on it because of the actions of others. Agreed, Just because some (many? most?) are only in to being part of a social club does not force you to not be into it for the right reasons. "I will find a new sig someday."

Paul Watson wrote: Well if Christmas is not the celebration of Jesus' birth then why the hell do I get ropped into going to church on Christmas day and seeing the nativity scene hmmm? Christmas is a celebration of Jesus' birth. Just because it was set up to match what had been a pagen celebration does not change that. If you choose to not celebrate Christmas fine. But go call your celebration something else. I will celebrate Jesus' birth. I also believe if religious freedom (skip multi page explaination.) So it is not my right to dictate my belief's on others. And the world will be much better off if we share and understand each other. Given this I will wish this years EID to our Muslim CPians be good to them and hope that it allows us all to be more understanding. "I will find a new sig someday."

I am sure if all of us try to be understanding, we can all come closer to each other and be united. @ish@ check my latest article in .NET section What is Common Language Runtime(CLR)?

Paul Watson wrote: Care to explain what EID is all about? Like Christmas for Christians and Hanukah for Jews, Muslims have two major days of celebration, namely the feast of Ramadhan ('EId Al-Fitr) and the Feast of Sacrifice ('Eid Al-Adhha). The word 'Eid is an Arabic name to mean a festivity, a celebration, a recurring happiness, and a feast. The first 'Eid is celebrated by Muslims after fasting the month of Ramadan as a matter of thanks and gratitude to Almighty God. This year, Eid will be celebrated on December 6. The second 'Eid is the Feast of Sacrifice and it is to be celebrated for the memory of prophet Abraham trying to sacrifice his son Ishmael. This 'Eid lasts four days between the tenth and the thirteenth day of Zul-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the lunar calendar. // Fazlul
very good explanation :) @ish@ check my latest article in .NET section What is Common Language Runtime(CLR)?

Aisha Ikram wrote: I think fasting is very good practice which teaches us patience and controlling our selves. Had a friend back in school who was a Muslim and every year he would do this fasting effort. It never taught him anything but resentment for his religion and parents for being forced to do something he saw no point. I personally would not learn anything from fasting, other than How To Stuff My Face Once The Sun Has Set. I think there are far better ways of teaching patience and control. But hey, whatever works for you :)

I think there are far better ways of teaching patience and control. But hey, whatever works for you :-) right. you see, we people don't learn from anything, not from our society, not from the suffering, killings, pains.... we have made our own rules of life, those which suits us well. And we never try to understand, don't even try to distinguish what is good and what is bad for us. At least at times i think, what we are made for?? Ok you tell me what you say about it. what's our purpose? everybody comes and goes, what's this world? what are we??? sorry if i am bothering you :-O @ish@ check my latest article in .NET section What is Common Language Runtime(CLR)?

That only we can judge whether our lives are worthwhile and purposeful. You, Chris, Bush, whoever has no stake giving them any right to say whether my life was a waste, just as I have no right to yours. Sounds trite but the age old "Be true to yourself" saying is the right way IMO. So basically I do not need anyone or any-deity telling me what my purpose in life is. That comes from within, so does the score card at the end of it. What are we? We are animals on a ball of rock orbiting a star in the Milky Way galaxy. We are no different, in the sense of being special or Gods children, to the other billions of planets and life forms out there. We are made up of flesh and blood, bound together by atomic forces and driven by electro-chemical reactions. People put a lot of significance into the soul and a higher state than synapses in our fleshy brains. I think they are running from what they see as a terrifying truth, that we are just atoms, nothing more, nothing less. I think it is incredible that we are what we are and wish others would see the beauty of it instead of hunting for alternatives they can proclaim as Gods fingerprints, as Gods chosen ones. We are children of the universe, products of the stars. Nobody but us can save us, nobody but us can progress us. We are what we do and think. And you did not bother me at all :) Ask anyone here, I love talking about stuff like this :-D
