Volanteer Your PC

I have a cable modem at home, and I usually leave my PC on 24 hours a day. I was wondering how many people out there did try these projects which uses a grid of PCs that are volanteered by people on the Internet (see Team Code Project), and how did it affect: 1. Stability of the PC. 2. Privacy 3. Performance Also what are the sites to consider when deciding on the project to participate into. Is there any sites that goes into more details about how a project is split into work units, ...etc. CodeProject Team Link http://members.ud.com/services/teams/team.htm?id=9F9DA7E6-980C-4E43-81BB-C645BF62C32C[^] Regards, Victor. phpWebNotes is a page annotation system modelled after php.net. http://webnotes.sourceforge.net/demo.php[^]

I was running UD for quite some time under W2K: 1) No problems, dude. 2) If they did give my data away, they did it very secretly. 3) No problems either App, and handling, and e-mail stuff was all very professional. I was turned off, however, by the "we are so cool world saving" you find at the message boards (compared to what the client actually does), and I didn't reinstall it after the last HDD cleanse party. OTOH, they might have researched new biochemical weapons on my PC, and I wouldn't have noticed.

I've had no problems at all with the UD agent, either on Win2k or WinXP Home/Professional. The only thing I would say is that if you're machine's fairly old (say <600MHz P3) then you'll see a performance impact (the first machine I tried it on was a Celeron 333). On my laptop (1GHz Duron) and work machine (2GHz Xeon) there's no observable effect. :) Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk

Victor Boctor wrote: 1. Stability of the PC. 2. Privacy 3. Performance I've had no problems with any of those and I've been running UD since April 2001 ;) I did take a break from running it, just because I reformatted and forgot to reinstall it. Like peterchen said, if they sold my information they did it very secretly. Since I've had this e-mail account (approx. 1.5 years) I've only received 3 pieces of spam. James - out of order -

I participate at Folding@Home[^] on W2K: 1) No problem at all 2) Nothing detected 3) No problem because of the very low priority of the process.
