 Actually, I use it almost daily. However: Structured - there's nothing structured about it Query - It does more than queries Language - Who are you kidding? Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

How true. However the thing that I hate most about SQL is that it is so pervasive(pun intended). I mean come on...do we really need an introductory SQL chapter in every programming book?

Sequel or S-Q-L, depending on who you ask. If you're talking about SQL Server, then "Sequel." If you're talking about MySQL, then "My S-Q-L." Jon Sagara When I want something, I just go out and buy it. That makes me a go-getter. -- My sister

I say es-que-ell. S.Q.L. Now there's a novel idea. :)

I'm sorry David, but your are wrong. The proper way to pronounce SQL is sequel, see-kwel. Jason Gerard "This almost never matters, except quite often."

Sequal - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

I'll refrain from making a similar comment about your sentance structure, and simply say: he asked for my personal opinion, not the dictionary pronounciation. Being from a country that reguarly butchers words like data and aluminium I hardly think you are qualified to lecture on pronounciation! ;)

is that it is so pervasive(pun intended) A month ago I wouldn't have gotten that one! I mean come on...do we really need an introductory SQL chapter in every programming book? Oh, that's just to get the page count up. Pages=$$$. And kill a few trees. Hey, BTW, I'd be curious about any words you may have on my recent (as of 10 minutes ago) article, given your comments in the soapbox (thanks again!) http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/WhatIsAGoodArticle.asp[^] Help! Well, some people use the "ess cue ell" pronunciation, but I'm a hard-headed mule diehard fan of pronouncing it like "sequel" because that's the name SQL came from initially when IBM created it in the 70's. It was originally called SEQUEL (Structured English Query Language), but had to be changed for copyright reasons. All the sudden, we got SQL. Jeremy Falcon Imputek Excrement escapes everyone - even elders.
This is exactly why I say es-que-el as when I first started programming (early 80's) I was informed that the "sequel" represented an actual product. Cheers, Tom Archer Author - Inside C#, Visual C++.NET Bible
