Don't forget the odd/even rule... 30 - Bad 311 - Good (Relatively speaking) 95 - Ba--A general protection fault 0E has occurred... 98 - Good (Ok, better than 95) Me - Incredibly Bad XP - Good Vista - Makes WinMe look good by comparison 7 - Good Hmm, each bad version seems to be worse than the bad version before it... Which means 8 will be worse than Vista... That's a scary thought.

See the video.[^] I suspect it will need a new computer, still, I am sure I will be able to convince my wife that the one we have now is past it, it is 14 months old already!

Personally, I thought 95 was better than 98. Then again, I never had 98 SP2 or SE or whatever which was not free.

Actually, XP was bad. Very bad. People tend to forget that it was awful until it was fixed as part of SP3 which, ironically, had a really negative effect on Vista.

2000 was from the server branch, not the consumer products branch. IMHO, everything in the server line from NT 3.51 onward was great. True, a lot of NT guts were used in XP onward, but what we're talking about here is the UI in the consumer line of products.

Yeah, no kidding... When did "using a computer" start to mean "taking pictures, browsing YouTube, and posting on Twitter"? Two things I do infrequently, and one that I've never done.

When I saw news few months back that Windows 8 will be using Metro UI, I was hoping for rumor... but that was true. I cant believe they are using Metro UI for mainstream OS. I though they just figure it out that they cant use mainstream OS UI on mobile OS, but now who is going to make them understand that reverse way is even worse. Let's hope that you can change the theme back to Windows Aero. Mainstream OS UI should provide basic interface for client apps, and not tightly integrated apps inside UI as services... even if this is just for consumer version, They are trying to make users dumb after trying too hard to make them smart enough to use windows 98.

It's a shame that stupidity can't be converted into a usable energy source.

Yeah, they share a codebase, but they're still separate product lines, and I don't know if the odd/even rule applies to the server lines.

Except that mouse/keyboard and touch are two very different things, and trying to force them to use the same operating system... Well, Asus supposedly pulled it off with the Eee Transformer... So maybe it's doable.

Thanks for the link. Wow, that looks incredibly stupid! While it seems reasonable for a mobile device like WP7 or a tablet, I can't see how it could possibly improve the UX on a desktop system. At least no more than any other Windows shell that any competent Windows developer could dream up an write. What am I missing here

It will have two modes for the UI. Normal => Wewen like or optimized for touch (tablet, phone, desktop with touch monitor if you like/have..). So, on the desktop version you can choose and/or switch between the two modes. :)

                                          All the best, Dan
