I'm leaving, just had enough. There are others who have left without saying but I decided I owe it to the good folks here (Chris, Pete, DD, DaveAuld, Griff and others) to say why. Basically there is an element of blatant elitism that turns into attacks/ridicule on others whether it be blondes or Visual Basic. I have been told to my face I can't do my job because of my hair colour wirth response that I should just live with it or sink to their level. Also Visual Basic, whether it is VBA or VB.NET, has it's place for different users yet some here decide they can ridicule anyone who touches it. These are two examples of an underlying attitude I do not wish to be associated with so goodbye everyone and take care. I have asked Chris to delete my account. Elaine :rose:

I always pictured you as a brunette, but don't ask me why. I've observed that hair color has no bearing on a person's abilities or proclivities. Regarding VB, if you code in it and like it, that's fine. I code in it and most definitely don't like it, which is also fine. Everyone here that pays attention knows my current job requires it, and that I don't like, and I get a certain amount of good-natured flac for it. I didn't even know you coded in VB - or I had forgotten. I think you're overreacting.

You should offer them a closer look at the hair color as you head-butt them in the nose.

I know I have made the odd comment about VB, and if I am one of those you refer to here, I tell you would never ridicule those who work with the language, I just enjoy poking fun at the language because I am burdened with the maintenance of several poorly written legacy systems written in vb. You will be missed.

I use VB all the time (only because I have to), and consider myself to have license to ridicule the language. Maybe that's why I'm more okay with having people (like you) make the occasional offhand comment about it.

To be fair John, I only rib you a little from time to time because I know how much it annoys you having to use it. I am fully aware that you are way more comfortable with C#, (I use it occasionally), but I am forced to use VB at work because a) XL VBA and b) boss likes to be able to follow the code and he can't use C#. I can live with the taunts, I am a big boy!

It's faux elitism, for running jokes. For example, the only time I ever say anything bad about VB (which is a fully functional programming language, love it or hate it) is to pull John's leg. I actually use VB for mock-ups, because it's just so damned easy to do things like that with it -- I can't use it for real work, because this is a Java hellhole shop. And no-one truly believes that blondes, Irishmen, "polacks", or whatever are really all stupid, so don't take an instance of a running joke as a personal attack -- it's just a running joke; a theme (and if there's one thing that devs like, it's reusable themes).

I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!

I am sure you have thought pretty hard about this, and if it is your decision to go, I just wish you the best of luck, and will say you will be missed. I wish you wouldn't, though...
