Some liberties can be taken on a forum, true, but not being able to spell or choose the correct homophone when you do bother to get the spell checker out shows either a poor grasp of language or an utter disrespect for CP (if you can write properly but choose not to bother when posting here). Someone with a school level education, never mind two degrees, should have a natural seeming way with words – it shouldn't be something that you have to put a special effort into. (Some parts of scientific writing are 'rigorously applied intellectual standards' and wouldn't be expected here, but just general use of English language is not.)

Does VS really give you £700 more value than, say, SharpDevelop? Now they got the integrated debugger working over there I haven't really found anything it's missing out on (perhaps some ASP/web related things, I don't use .Net for my hobby websites).
Considering that C# and C++ Express are free, what additional does SharpDevelop give you that makes you want to use it?

You mean the VS Express? SharpDevelop loads much faster and uses much less memory, to the extent that on a former computer of mine VS wouldn't run at all. (VS is horrible bloatware that I would prefer to keep out of my personal life.) Also, I thought VS Express had licence restrictions on what you can do with stuff you make in it

In a word no But at the time the sharpdevelop debugger wasn't up to the job and it was getting in the way of my getting things working so it had to go.
