I'm a computer operator. At least, according to this test: http://www.cs.utah.edu/~scook/tech/hacker.htm[^] When you take it, you must put your score in the subject line of your response.

The test seems kind of dated to me. I'd probably score half what I did if I didn't spend six months hacking into a VAX mainframe in a local college, while simultaneously failing a Computer Operators course because I thought it was beneath me. In hindsight, I was right. Christian No offense, but I don't really want to encourage the creation of another VB developer. - Larry Antram 22 Oct 2002

:-D I actually roomed with the guy who wrote "Hunt The Wumpus". He lives in Santa Cruz now and goes by the name "Hara Ra". [edit] and when I was in eighth grade, I had the front panel bootstrap toggle sequence memorized for the PDP-11 my school was using. I had to use it frequently because the mag-tape drive was connected to the same power supply as the CPU, so if it the motor drew too much power, it crashed the computer. I remember touching a core memory I found in some junk electronics store![/edit] Those were the days... Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

A bit historical. :-) you gotta be a bit dated to score high. I appreciate the phreaking mentions and all, remembet building Minix, and doing self modifying code on the 6502-- sometimes via straight hex in the monitor. but *sigh*... no mention of my love the Atari and TOS. I miss her. sniff. ;-) Oh yeah. and vector displays, those RULED. LOL.

Somehow I'm both proud and ill when I think about this. Up until recently I did have a naked 5 1/4 disk hanging on my wall for example, eek. David

And yes, you can boot from one without the sleeve, but it takes a bit of fiddling with the drive internals. They can take away my floppies, but they'll never get my oscilloscope!:-D "How many times do I have to flush before you go away?" - Megan Forbes, on Management (12/5/2002)

Yeah, I agree the test is age biased. I challenge you to make one that isn't. Regardz Colin J Davies
