I'm a computer operator. At least, according to this test: http://www.cs.utah.edu/~scook/tech/hacker.htm[^] When you take it, you must put your score in the subject line of your response.

A bit historical. :-) you gotta be a bit dated to score high. I appreciate the phreaking mentions and all, remembet building Minix, and doing self modifying code on the 6502-- sometimes via straight hex in the monitor. but *sigh*... no mention of my love the Atari and TOS. I miss her. sniff. ;-) Oh yeah. and vector displays, those RULED. LOL.

Great test. I'm a bit young to have had any experience with many things on the test but my university hits us pretty hard with both old and new technologies. I wouldn't have done quite as good if I hadn't had started college as a Computer Engineer either. Brad Jennings

pretty geared-towards-oldtimers this thing. Heck, Knowing Win 3.1, 3.11, 95, 95B, 98, 98SE, ME, NT3.51, NT4, W2K, XP would have given me 11 additional points - more than 'nuff for the next level...

Stop whining. You're only 40. My Dad has you beat by a year. ;P It could be worse. You could remember a time without computers at all. :omg:

It could be worse. You could remember a time without computers at all. My first "computer" was an HP calculator. 8 registers and 49 program step memory. I still have their "Applications & Programs" manual (c) 1975 because it has some cool functions for calculating all the lengths of sides and angles of a triangle with only three known. I can't even find that in college textbooks! My math teacher in tenth grade was oohing and aahing over how to use the "add with carry" instruction on the school's IMSAI computer. Good grief. How one teaches the fundamentals of programming nowadays, I have no idea. Maybe there's a limit to how much a person can learn because they'll ultimately spend all their life learning foundational material. Actually, that's a good argument for re-incarnation. We probably come back with all this knowledge in our subconscious, the way it seems kids are nowadays. :-D Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.
