Idiot dies of idiocy

Serpent-handling pastor dies after rattlesnake bite[^] This is an anti idiot post, not an anti specific religion post.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.
Well accidents happen! If he survived 44 years handling snakes he must be expert of some sort. When you are so accustomed of being around snakes it is quite possible that you will commit a single careless mistake like he did and die. The same thing applies to lot of herpetologists, animal handlers (aka Sigfield and Roy), and people practicing dangerous professions. So I will not call him an idiot. The sight of a snake makes me have nightmare for days so I have respect for anyone who is comfortable with snakes.

It is not handling snakes that makes him an idiot, it is his reasons for doing so, and his reasons for not seeking treatment after being bitten by one. Just like Steve Jobs was an idiot for refusing cancer treatment because he believed he could make it go away by being Steve Jobs.

I think it is, because there is no logical explanation. ;P

I found some more followers of that religion[^].

That's a facepalm moment if ever there was one. The fact his Dad went the same way at about the same age would seem to be a bit of a hint here... Darwin would undoubtedly be so proud. Our pastor Dwayne[^]* has a southern pentacostal background (he's from Oklahoma) so I'm sure he will just shake his head (and possibly write a sermon on the subject...) when he hears about this particular loon. * At MCC Bournemouth[^]. It makes for some interesting cultural misunderstandings, but we're gradually assimilating him. Based on recent conversations I suspect we are unlikely to convince him Budweiser just isn't worth bothering with though.

You are openly posting about a gay priest (oxymoron)? That should be moved to the soapbox so people can share their opinions on that. :)
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.
No, I'm posting about our pastor, and linking to his Twitter feed. Why should that be in the soapbox just because of his orientation? (which is irrelevant to the thread BTW - the thing that I was drawing attention to is that he's a Pentacostal pastor from Oklahoma - preaching in a UK church - who will probably have an interesting take on the article).

Indeed! Heck, even Tooheys probably makes more sense than Budweiser (and as Michael Martin will tell you, that's saying something!).

Budweiser commits the worst of all possible sins in a beer: it's boring.

Based on the taste, it's made with filtered water from a municipal source and a dash of chihuahua urine.

Actually I meant it the way I have it; however, after thinking about it, you are right. There are a lot of religions where it is tautology. I guess I was sticking to conservative Bible teachings, not our modern progressive (progress us into oblivion) thinking.

Interesting, a word combination that is both a tautology and an oxymoron. I wonder if there's a word for that.

I guess it depends on your background. I came to Faith quite recently (early 2001), so my perspective on the Bible is probably a bit different to what it might have been if I'd been raised from childhood with conservative translations of it. Although I was asked to leave my first church when I came out as trans (they just got frightened, I think), I've found love and understanding in Anglican, Baptist and MCC congregations. More importantly, during that time I've come to realise that all of the squabbling between various churches over theology and approach is a huge distraction from what we're meant to be doing, and that people are getting hurt unnecessarily. As Revd. Elder Troy Perry is fond of saying, "The main thing, is to keep the Main Thing, the MAIN THING" (the main thing being Jesus of course). I think the world would be a far happier place if those arguing within the church kept that in mind and stopped taking pot-shots at each other and vulnerable people. Anyway, off soapbox now. Fancy a beer?

The big crunch. Oh wait, that was rhetorical, wasn't it? :)
