It's been suggested to me that I ought to look into life coaching, not because of my horrible programming talents, haha, but as a result of mentoring some (mostly) younger people over the last couple of years--don't get any inappropriate thoughts in your head--the feedback has been that I'm actually rather good at this nebulous term "life coaching". So, I'm curious, does anyone else here do anything that might fall under that category? I've been researching the topic a bit, and there sure is a lot of, well, garbage out there related to the idea, but I'd be interested in some actual professional training (and no, I'm not interested in a degree in psychology.) Isn't life coach just another term for unemployed? Like consultant?

There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Not personally, but we did meet someone at Bournemouth Barcamp who did it: https://twitter.com/alightheart[^]

I would have figured it was a bunch of garbage, but I took a time and life management course for work and it changed my opinion. I've got to get some things in order, but I'm going to look the guy up and setup a 5 year plan with him including education and mentors. His website does a very poor job of presenting him, but here it is[^].

I've helped to raise a few kids that weren't my own, for short periods of time, and I'm happy to report that they've all turned out great, but I have no idea how one would make a business out of this. I feel a strong sense of moral duty to pass on to youngsters what I've learned in life, if they happen to be smart enough to ask; it would feel wrong to charge for that service. Still, it's a gift beyond value to be granted the wisdom of another who has earned it from the school of life. How many are really capable of understanding and appreciating such a boon? For as long as I've known you, Marc, yours has been a voice of reason and tolerance. If anyone here is qualified to offer such a service, it's you. If you want to try this, I encourage you to do so. I know of no one more qualified or capable. My only worry is that you might be casting pearls before swine. That can lead to bitterness, and that would diminish and demean you. Don't let it get that far, if you decide to pursue this course.

I don't think you should spend altogether too much time on it. Try a short course: Breathe, eat, sh1t, sleep. Now get back to work.
