Do you ever say anything interesting enough for someone to bother? Edit: Reported as spam or abusive? Really?

I think someone misinterpreted as an attack on the OP as it can be read two ways. When I first read it I took it that way and thought it was a bit out of character for you, so read it again, it was only the second time that it read how you intended it to..

I laugh at this sort of thing because the real tragedy of these devices isn't that they can be hacked, but rather, they are so outright easy to steal. For some reason nobody seems to care that it is often a violation of federal, state, and institutional law to carry around other people's personal data this way. A doctor can now carry around hundreds of people's patient history on an iPad and accidently leave it in the cafeteria. That is a much bigger threat then 'hacking'.

Where I used to work had tablet PCs for the docs, the key was NEVER EVER to store patient data on the tablet. EVER! You had to have a wifi connection, which went through a secure VPN, and pulled the information up in a session. As soon as you locked the PC or closed the VPN, all the info was supposedly wiped. I was still in that sector when the new HIPAA laws were being passed about 4 years ago. The threat of jailtime and fines for not only the organization but for the individual programmers if there was a breach, even if unintentional was a bit of a big stick approach.

OK maybe i will be putting the spark on a debate that will end up in total genocide between android and iphone users but here goes. My boss went to a conference the other day where someone had a presentation of how easy it is to hack a Android device at the end of it they turned the device into a mic that transmitted any conversation in the room to their laptop. My question is shoudl i have sleepless nights over my samsung galaxy s2 or is this merely some apple propeganda ?

(mildly conspiratorial :suss:) If you are a "nobody" don't be paranoid. If you are someone of some importance, basic security like turning off the cell phone or even removing the battery from the device will prevent potential snooping from 3rd party when in a meeting. If truly paranoid, use different devices when traveling abroad that does not contain sensitive information (personal or business related). This is an old link : taps cell phone mic as eavesdropping tool[^]

If you are going to get paranoid about that, then start looking for the transmitters he planted while demonstrating how easy it was...

Tell your boss that they most likely had a rooted device where they had admin permissions and the same has been done with Apple devices. Then get on with your life.

That is most likely my thought on the matter , becuase apparently the presenter made emphasis this is a fully updated version of ICS , then started his hack via a laptop connected on the same wireless network . but I mean without root access of something giving him some manner of admin privelages on the device I simply do not see a way you can hack any device be it android or IOS.

It wasn't a personal attack, he was merely asking if your phone calls were interesting enough for someone to bother to go to the effort of hacking them. I know mine aren't, unless you want to hear my Missus moaning about what I should/shouldn't have done.

On a serious note I think they should have a "Taser" feature in all the newer smart phones. Think of the benefit! When on the subway or whatever everyone is zoned in on their phone. Some criminal comes up "Hey give me your money!" -swipe, tap tap... ZAPPPPAAPAPAPAPA... "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH DON'T TAZE ME BRO!!" I know I would feel safer if my S3 had a taze feature. Would be fun at parties too ;P

Based on a lot of activity in this area.  Bluestacks[^] and AMD[^] are closely involved in developing this technology.  Nobody's suggesting that every Microsoft shop is going to turn to desktop Android, but I think it's a distinct possibility that desktop Android could find its way into the marketplace. /ravi

he thinks Android will replace desktop Windows as their largest market

Based on what exactly? They aren't even in that market, nor to my knowledge have they announced plans to move into that market. Seems like his claim is based on pure guessing to me...

I think you missed the point, he is saying that android will be "THE SECURITY COMPANIES" biggest market not that Windows will be replaced this seems to be knee jerk reaction rather than reading what is actually written

You cant outrun the world, but there is no harm in getting a head start Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

Ah yes. I did miss that point. I would still doubt it though. Mobile devices are so sandboxed unless the user roots it there is little concern. And those users are very limited, and tend to know what they are doing.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

But security companies like to sell products and there are probably more privately owned phones than PCs so a bigger potential market - especially if they can drum up some scare stories
