Wife hints to husband for a new Car! "Dear! Buy me something that goes from 0 to 80 in 3 seconds when I am on it." . . . . . . . . . . . Husband gifted her a "Weight Machine".

That is so hard to get on this side of the pond.

No kidding. For USians, if the wife stepped on the scale and saw 80, life would be good (rail thin, probably jailbait, but not the uproar that makes this joke work).

Doesn't make much sense this side either. I don't think they make them as go up to 80 stone.

I would also suggest that you get in a car, not ON a car.

To be "on it" may also be intended to mean "putting the pedal to the metal" with one's lead foot.

The units for 80, I guess is "kilograms", then it wouldn't be that poor a joke :) I guess that's what Sandeep intended too!

                  Cheers, Karthik

I think we all knew what the joke was. If you google "something that goes from 0 to in seconds" you get 435 million hits. It is an oft told joke, with slightly different upper values and times.

Strange how your mind went there. I was thinking of a dwarf.

I have a friend who had a countdown clock until the Olsen twins turned 18. Perhaps I've been warped by association. Also, I think Gimli would tip the scale a touch more than 80 pounds. Maybe your friends had a thing for midgets, and that's why you think of this first? ;P
