If You mean Joe, then yes. I make a pot when I wake up (5 AM). Then on my way to work I stop and have a 24 oz. cup. Then by 9 AM I have another. Not an addict though!

Frazzle the name say's it all

That sounds familiar. When I was in college, I would have a cup or two at home, and then stop in one of the campus lounges and get their biggest cup before my first class. At some point during my second class I would start withdrawing, so I'd dry swallow a couple Vanquish[^] and a couple NoDoz, much to the amazement and disgust of the people around me. If caffeine had the same effect as anabolic steroids, I'd make Arnold Schwarzenegger look like Wally Cox[^].

Is there anybody who just craves or is "addicted to coffee" as a software developer, computer/system programmer or just plain "programmer." For instance, you may pause a project briefly just to brew and sip a cup of Joe. Like you cannot live or cannot survive a day without thinking about having a craving of this drug?

I drink coffee better than I write code. There are days when I drink more coffee than code so my lifestyle balance is good.:java:

That means that you have ADD or ADHD. The mechanics of how stimulants work are not fully understood, but it is well known that stimulants have the opposite effect in those with severe attention deficit disorders. I unfortunately am quite familiar with what it is like to being around someone with said affliction. :-( The worst case I know is my (ex) father in law, who used to make a whole pot and drink it before bed. I can't drink any caffeine after 14:00 or I can't get to sleep at night.

Truth be told, I have ADD, and Coffee isn't too bad on my system, I just have to modulate my intake. Usually, I'd drink about 2 cups a day, one at the beginning of work, one Midday. If I'm feeling in the mood for a cup at home, I'd grab one while the database is initialising its sessions. Just plain ground for me, nothing more, nothing less. On the other hand, I do like drinking rooibos tea (doesn't have as much caffeene and also helps calm my nerves) so that's probably why I can regulate my coffee intake so well. Hope this helps.

So on my desk I have a cafetiere mug, some ground coffee from a lovely place in Bakewell, and a jar of RocketFuel (double shot instant coffee with Guarana). I might also occasionally pop over to the staff canteen where they do barrista coffee. Can I survive a day without coffee? Yes, but I am really suffering the day after. Do I maybe think that this is most definitely a real addiction now? I need help :)

Coffee is as important to me as water and air. Sometimes I shift my workload and priorities based on the availability of coffee. Now I'm in a long session so I'm moving to tasks with lower brain processing until a get a chance to grab a cup of coffee in the break to refuel. Most -but not all- of the recharge is actually psychic not due to caffeine. You immediately start to feel fresh again at the smell of your favorite coffee and even before you take your first sip. I know this may sound bad but considering that the human brain was not designed to handle this amount of processing and load it's quite natural to use chemicals that would increase the speed of signals in the brain -that's what caffeine actually does-. Another thing is that to the surprise of many people, coffee and chocolate are very healthy and beneficial to both the heart and brain. It's been proven in recent studies that caffeine aids in the prevention of heart disease and type II diabetes. The main downside of drinking coffee is that you should not drink it on an empty stomach to avoid the risk of having gastric ulcer. Also for patients with established hypertension; they may also have increase blood pressure due to coffee consumption. Last thing is that unlike many energy drinks; coffee and chocolate both are rich in antioxidants which are very critical for tissue regeneration and fighting aging -I'm not talking about wrinkles here people :)-.

That confirms it. Somebody restrain this man while I give him an injection to medically induce a coma while his body goes through withdrawal. If we make him do it awake, he'll go insane and hang himself with his own straitjacket.

Inject? Isn't that dangerous, does your body have to chemically break it down, or it will kill you by poisoning.

Why do you think you have to pause a project just for the purpose of brewing or picking up a drink? I find that time to be highly productive - some of my best ideas I got while I was away from my desk!

Does not sound too healthy, I eat mostly a diet of beans, sandwiches, while going to the Gym to do weight lifting...so yeah, Lol (no pun intended). Even though I try to limit how much caffeine I take in to my system and how I make it (I add so much coffee grounds, the coffee tastes like dirt, even after a few creamers and/or 10 tablespoons of table sugar), since it can make me dizzy, really tired, go to the rest room a lot, overly sweat, makes me jittery, you get the picture.

I will paraphrase my doctor with whom I check-in every year or so. I drink a LOT of coffee, but he says that if it's not causing me problems (stomach, sleep, etc.) I can pretty much have as much as I want. It's sugary drinks that are a problem. (I happen to have stopped adding sugar a couple of years ago, and I don't drink sugary drinks.) It's soda that's the real killer, and this includes fruit juices, bottled teas, energy drinks, etc. which are ALL sugar (and it's doesn't matter where that sugar comes from - cane, corn, etc...) Coffee: Good Mt. Dew: Bad Just my personal soapbox....

Simple Thanks and Regards, Brandon T. H. Less than two hours into the day and I am on my fourth mug. Reading news and drinking coffee has become the routine.

Hah! I was a hardcore Dew drinker for over 20 years until about 8 months ago. Now, if I can just kick the cigs! :sigh:
