Is there anybody who just craves or is "addicted to coffee" as a software developer, computer/system programmer or just plain "programmer." For instance, you may pause a project briefly just to brew and sip a cup of Joe. Like you cannot live or cannot survive a day without thinking about having a craving of this drug?

Simple Thanks and Regards, Brandon T. H. Programming in C and C++ now, now developing applications, services and drivers (and maybe some kernel modules...psst kernel-mode drivers...psst). Coffee is as important to me as water and air. Sometimes I shift my workload and priorities based on the availability of coffee. Now I'm in a long session so I'm moving to tasks with lower brain processing until a get a chance to grab a cup of coffee in the break to refuel. Most -but not all- of the recharge is actually psychic not due to caffeine. You immediately start to feel fresh again at the smell of your favorite coffee and even before you take your first sip. I know this may sound bad but considering that the human brain was not designed to handle this amount of processing and load it's quite natural to use chemicals that would increase the speed of signals in the brain -that's what caffeine actually does-. Another thing is that to the surprise of many people, coffee and chocolate are very healthy and beneficial to both the heart and brain. It's been proven in recent studies that caffeine aids in the prevention of heart disease and type II diabetes. The main downside of drinking coffee is that you should not drink it on an empty stomach to avoid the risk of having gastric ulcer. Also for patients with established hypertension; they may also have increase blood pressure due to coffee consumption. Last thing is that unlike many energy drinks; coffee and chocolate both are rich in antioxidants which are very critical for tissue regeneration and fighting aging -I'm not talking about wrinkles here people :)-.

That confirms it. Somebody restrain this man while I give him an injection to medically induce a coma while his body goes through withdrawal. If we make him do it awake, he'll go insane and hang himself with his own straitjacket.

Inject? Isn't that dangerous, does your body have to chemically break it down, or it will kill you by poisoning.

Why do you think you have to pause a project just for the purpose of brewing or picking up a drink? I find that time to be highly productive - some of my best ideas I got while I was away from my desk!

Does not sound too healthy, I eat mostly a diet of beans, sandwiches, while going to the Gym to do weight lifting...so yeah, Lol (no pun intended). Even though I try to limit how much caffeine I take in to my system and how I make it (I add so much coffee grounds, the coffee tastes like dirt, even after a few creamers and/or 10 tablespoons of table sugar), since it can make me dizzy, really tired, go to the rest room a lot, overly sweat, makes me jittery, you get the picture.

I will paraphrase my doctor with whom I check-in every year or so. I drink a LOT of coffee, but he says that if it's not causing me problems (stomach, sleep, etc.) I can pretty much have as much as I want. It's sugary drinks that are a problem. (I happen to have stopped adding sugar a couple of years ago, and I don't drink sugary drinks.) It's soda that's the real killer, and this includes fruit juices, bottled teas, energy drinks, etc. which are ALL sugar (and it's doesn't matter where that sugar comes from - cane, corn, etc...) Coffee: Good Mt. Dew: Bad Just my personal soapbox....

Less than two hours into the day and I am on my fourth mug. Reading news and drinking coffee has become the routine.

Coffee? (Fiendishly Explodes with Diabolical Laughter) No no... you wanna try some C4 Extreme Pre-Workout drink mix from Cellucor! Man... talk about BEAST-MODE! You can literally feel your skin tingle when that stuff initially uptakes into your system, and I'd swear a voltage spike of AWESOME simultaneously occurs in all your Neural synapsis. But I digress... that's (usually) only on days where I know I'm gonna workout that night. Personally what I kinda enjoy is the whole ritual thing of popping-in that morning K-Cup of SBUX Blonde into the KEURIG machine. Used to like doing the Espresso maker every morning... and that way does come out stronger... but the wifey scored a KEURIG machine via "corporate wellness points" and using the K-Cups are just soo darned easy and mess-free!

I was addicted to coffee, now I take pills instead. Same thing, just without the laxative effect. I take 100 mg when I wake up and another 100 mg around lunch time. Sometimes I take another 100 mg if I go to the gym or a party after work or planning to work on a side project at home... My levels of adenosine are pretty high and without caffeine I'm just slow and sleepy, which can be even dangerous, for example while driving. I will get a nice capsule filling machine some day to make my own capsules - pure caffeine is sold on Amazon and it's dirt cheap.
