As I have said previously this is the bit I find hard to believe. I have provided a source that states explicitly that the word Engineer came after the word Engine. You say it is the other way but provide no proof (The examples you are giving are of people being retrospectively called Engineers, not of people who were called Engineers at the time.)

I think it is more accurate to say that the Team members are the ones who plot the course, navigate the boat, steer it to the destination while overcoming any obstacles and extreme weather on the way. The manager is the one who thinks he is on a Train.

This was a discussion between me and my manager regarding the team effort. I imagined our company as a boat sailing in a river. I imagined the manager as the person who steers the boat, and the team members as the persons who paddle the water with the guidance of the manager. With all together they will reach safely. With any deficiency resulted from any of them they may get in the way.

I imagined the manager as the person who steers the boat, and the team members as the persons who paddle the water with the guidance of the manager. With all together they will reach safely. With any deficiency resulted from any of them they may get in the way.

I refer you to the all knowing[^]and the second paragraph "deriving from the word engineer, which itself dates back to 1325, when an engine’er (literally, one who operates an engine) originally referred to “a constructor of military engines.” Anyone before 1325 was not called an Engineer.

My concept of "manager" is like the story told by Covey in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, a true story apparently: It was a dark and stormy night. Crewmember: “Captain, Captain, wake up.” Captain: “Well?” Crewmember: “Sorry to wake you, sir, but we have a serious problem.” Captain: “Well what is it?” Crewmember: “There’s a ship in our sea lane about twenty miles away, and they refuse to move.” Captain: “What do you mean they refuse to move? Just tell them to move.” Crewmember: “Sir, we have told them; they will not move.” Captain: “I’ll tell them.” The signal goes out: “Move starboard 20 degrees.” The signal returns: “Move starboard yourself 20 degrees.” Captain: “I can’t believe this. Well, I mean I’m a captain. Let them know who I am. I’m important.” Signal goes out: “This is Captain Horatio Hornblower XXVI, commanding you to move starboard 20 degrees at once.” Signal returns: “This is Seaman Carl Jones II, commanding you to move starboard 20 degrees at once.” Captain: “What arrogance? You need to read more! Siege Engines have been around since Greek and Roman times. They were quite Ingenious. From the Latin Ingenium meaning Skill or Talent, and, as any fule no, Latin is a modern construct based upon Ancient Greek.
