Mike, You've been watching Dominion, haven't you?

Why Phil what ever gave you that idea? :)

New version: WinHeist Version 2.1.0 Beta Have you ever just looked at someone and knew the wheel was turning but the hamster was dead? Trying to understand the behavior of some people is like trying to smell the color 9. I'm not crazy, my reality is just different than yours! Not my circus not my monkey's!

Two of the world’s leading scientists have made an unprecedented call on religious leaders to spark a “massive mobilisation of public opinion”, insisting that only through God can we save the environment.[^] So praying to god is going to stop ice melting is it?

We could have a global version of the attempted climate control event that occured at a small music festival in 1969. "Hey, if you think real hard, maybe we can stop the rain ice melt! "No melt, no melt, no melt...." and before long, current concerns will magically melt away.

It's ridiculous in a quaintly old fashioned way to believe praying can change anything. Everyone knows that it is Facebook likes that you need to make things happen.

Or like anything written by a Real scientist. It's morons who don't know what they're talking about who talk in absolutes.

This could be a hard sell since many religious leaders deeply believe in some form of Eschaton, or Apocalypse, and may think it's close at hand, and well-deserved, because of our ... fill in the blank ... inherently sinful nature ... sinful behavior ... wickedness ... greed ... ? Perhaps re-forestation and fostering carbon sequestration could be sold as a form of "penance" for those religions which really lay the guilt-trip thing on thick ?

Interesting reply. Of course GW is just another doomsday religion that demands sacrifice so the implication here is that these scientists, knowing this, are trying to get existing proponents of one doomsday/sacrifice model to absorb their particular doomsday/sacrifice model. Its almost like asking them to change religion. :)

Well, duh! Look where we are. Here's the scientific version: Scientific training includes quite a lot on being precise, which includes being precise about the fact that everything we think we know could be wrong. People who are more interested in talking loudest than being precise aren't bound by that, so are more likely to spout absolute bollocks as if it were absolutely and incontestably true. Happy now?

Lots of people listen to spiritual leaders and ignore what science tells them, particularly if it's inconvenient. So it seems like a pretty sensible move to me.

Lordy, Lordy. Not really full of yourself, are you? We'll have to add auto-cannibalism to the dictionary to accommodate you. And "duh", by the way, is from Chaucer. Us educated types look in that direction, rather than hang on the words of cheerleaders.

Lordy, Lordy. Not really full of yourself, are you? We'll have to add auto-cannibalism to the dictionary to accommodate you. And "duh", by the way, is from Chaucer. Us educated types look in that direction, rather than hang on the words of cheerleaders.

I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!
