Just for the hell of it, I'll be optimistic. That implies that an old timer like myself (and many others in this lounge) don't have to worry about job security. Well, at least until the above-referenced cretins take over the management positions.

In this day and age where youth are programmed to have their thinking done for them, I do not find this surprising. My experience as a lead tech for a service department says yes, there are other afflicted industries. The electronic technicians that are turned out these days are unable to troubleshoot effectively but they are good* at swapping parts until the device works. *Good being far to generous a term to describe their skills as an electronic technician.

That one kills me, when asked why they chose that part to replace, you get the deer-in-headlights look along with the crickets chirping sound. If you're 'lucky' you'll get the "well it worked before....on a different problem".

And if not, all that thinking afterwards chasing bugs!

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet. The interesting thing about software is it can not reproduce, until it can.

I wonder if other industries are populated with the sort of person who posts questions like:

                                        Quote:

Iam unable to find the code for [redacted]. Ihave been searching for [redacted] but didnt found any exact code. Please help

Do they really believe that the job of a developer consists purely of Cut & Paste? Discuss.

If the "role" is a "coder" or "developer", then they typically can handle only rote tasks. In other words yes, that is what it is. If however, they are a Software Engineer or Architect then absolutely not. An engineer needs to think about the big picture and how things will come together. The architect must not only be concerned about that but also how things are maintained or tested and even extended. Asking this of someone that has little to no design study or work experience is a foul on the employers part. In the future (and maybe already today) our industry will have its version of "the burger flipper". I would get use to it. They have their place and we need them and often they will step up and be actual engineers.

Do programmers gain exp by copy and paste?

You mean like in Dungeons & Dragons? With the option to become a dual class Developer/Paladin when you reach level 15?

The language is JavaScript. that of Mordor, which I will not utter here
This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a fucking golf cart.
"I don't know, extraterrestrial?" "You mean like from space?" "No, from Canada." If software development were a circus, we would all be the clowns.
