Oh right...constitutions can't be amended so the second amendment can't ever be undone
Ignorance is eveidently bliss. There are in fact two ways to amend the Constitution. 0) Congress, by 2/3 vote of both the house and senate, could approve amendments. Given our current political disparity, neither side would likely get the votes they need to pull that off. Amendments 11-27 were created in this way. 1) Convene an "Article V Convention". This has never happened before, probably due to the inherent danger it poses to the Constitution itself. An Article V Convention itself is a slippery slope, in that the convention can do ANYTHING to the constitution that the majority of the delegates approve, including - but not limited to - changing or outright repealing of existing amendments. Sure, the delegates can claim they're only going to do this or that, but there are no rules or laws that say they have to abide by their stated agenda. A convention can be called when 34 states (or 2/3 of the states) call for one. However, delegates are appointed rather than voted for, so the people's wishes are not likely to be fully/accurately represented. Congress has no authority other than to call the convention when 34 state applications have been submitted. I am steadfastly opposed to an Article V Convention. Advocates claim they need one to better control the government, but my position is that the Constitution does a good job of that as it is. All we have to do is force our elected representatives to be constrained by it, as intended.

Short barrel, automatic fire. The first was the German sturmgewehr, the most famous the AK 47, M16. They are for one thing. Killing people, that is why they should be banned.
You already can't own a fully-automatic weapon, so the ban you're suggesting is already in place, and has been since 1934.

Contrary to popular belief among far-right, gun-nuts conservatives, gun control is not about removing the second amendment or to take away their guns. This has been explained a lot.
False. Gun control advocates have announced - several times - that the end goal is to take away all the guns and repeal the 2nd Amendment in its entirety.

Even if it is, would you rather continue to have more mass shootings then? Do you have a solution? What is more likely, that our government will turn on its citizens or that another mass shooting will take place?

The ATF has even said that the term "assault weapon" was "politically contrived". Given that the mainstream media is a state-controlled asset, they were used to propagate the use of the term.

Apart from shotguns (which I mentioned) and antiques, the rest are banned in mainland UK too. Even our Olympic shooting team had to leave the country to practice.

Sounds like something them young'uns would listen to at the club... actually can we just ban dubstep while we're at it?

Per your OP, the agenda is to ban assault weapons, while keeping the Constitution "in tact" through ownership of non "assault weapons". You have redefined what "arms" are, by implying it a right to own guns (which is in your second post).

Can't buy one, however you can still inherit unless I'm mistaken. Former colleague of mine had inherited his grandfather's Thompson, came with a lot of paperwork.

You are mistaken. For transfers of Class III devices, He had to pass the background check to take possession, and pay a "tax". And even though he has it, there's probably few, if any, places he can even legally shoot it. None of my local ranges allow fully automatic weapons fire.

I tried, but cannot find a reference to a mainstream group (or call them whatever) that advocate the complete repeal of 2nd amendment. And you did not convince me that gun control is about repealing the 2nd amendment or take away your gun. Obama (your favorite politician) has clearly stated it. [Here is the video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6imFvSua3Kg) but you probably won't watch it.

Assault weapons need to be illegal, period. Let's at least start there. And no, it's not a slippery slope, at least I hope not.

There's just one slight problem with that assumption. How do you define a weapon as an assault weapon? It's a very general term. One way is to ban high capacity magazines. OK, what defines the capacity? I have a .22 rifle that has a 7 shot magazine; a varmint gun. Is it an assault weapon? The term assault weapon was coined by people who are ignorant of guns. An AR-15 is a .223 caliber weapon with high velocity. A .45 ACP carbine is a much larger round with a lower velocity. Which is more dangerous? Which would be deemed as an assault weapon? Is it automatic weapons or semi-automatic? AR-15's are semi-automatic. The bottom line is that anything, ie. baseball bat, can also be covered under the definition of assault weapon just like knives, hammers, and anything else you can attack someone with. You can't solve a problem by treating the system. You have to go to the source of the problem. What cause the shooter to kill all of those kids?
When you are dead, you won't even know that you are dead. It's a pain only felt by others. Same thing when you are stupid.

This feel like an attempt at avoiding the issue and muddying the water. It is very clear that some guns are only intended to kill other people. How about starting with that.

You can't seriously compare what happened in Florida recently with a baseball bat. :wtf:

Passing the check for a class III weapon is more stringent - there's more paperwork to do, and the background check takes much longer. My point was that unlike non-Class III weapons, you can't simply inherit a machine gun without involving the government.
