So Florence was a bit of a flop then

Is that the same kind of expectation the media slathered over when they expected cat 5 winds?
no, idiot, it's based on the fact that it's already nearly 20' above flood stage and we know how much water is in the tributaries. National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service[^]

Turns out it was barely a hurricane: Hurricane Florence, Culmination of Exploitation of Natural Events by Government, Extremists, and Business | Watts Up With That?[^] "By Wednesday evening they already downgraded Florence from a Category 4 to a Category 2, and it came ashore barely as a Category 1. In fact, it was amusing to see how long they continued to report it with wind speeds of 75 mph because if it was 74 mph, it was no longer a hurricane. NOAA control the wind speed determinations with their estimates from one or two flights above the hurricane from which, using models they estimate surface speed. We know these are consistently higher than reality, but a higher speed allows for a higher hurricane category and greater media attention."
So, you think that all of this is "overblown"? Or would you rather the message from forcasters and the media be "under-reported" from actual conditions so you can have more people dead from the storm? I, for one, would rather over-prepare for the disaster than scramble at the last minute to try and gather supplies and/or get the out to safety when it's too late. Go read up on hurricane deaths in the past and you'll, hopefully, come to the conclusion that today people would rather be over-prepare and take action earlier for a storm that fizzles out than end up dead in a box for a storm that, by media standards, was "no big deal" but actually turned out worse than reported.

Good, at least the media haven't exaggerated everything out or all proportion.

Did you see the video of the weather journalist pretending to be 'over blown'?

Ah, here come the bit where I am ascribed a sentiment I dont hold.

Please, just effin' stop this shit. It is bad enough dealing with family members who want to espouse vitriol and hatred over politics and religion, including their denial of global warming. Coming here and seeing you do the same gets quite old.

Well, it's either going to be over-reported or under-reported. Very rarely is a weather event, and it's impacts, ever reported "dead on". You're complaining that it's over-reported, so that leaves the only other option.

Actually I wasn't, but I am sure you don't want to see it that way.

Take it to the soapbox and I will reply properly.

Dave KreskowiakIt is the almost vampiresque glee with which the media, and other agencies, over hype these events which I am getting at.

Yeah, and they are over-hyped for the reasons of safety and preparedness. Going the other way results in more people dying from these events. Seriously, go read a book about hurricane deaths and forecasting.

Tell that to the 17 people who died
If it's not broken, fix it until it is. Everything makes sense in someone's mind. Ya can't fix stupid.

Why would I stoop to your level? Seems rather pointless to me. I asked you to please stop, and that's all I intend to do. Please stop.
