Well, it's either going to be over-reported or under-reported. Very rarely is a weather event, and it's impacts, ever reported "dead on". You're complaining that it's over-reported, so that leaves the only other option.

Yeah, and they are over-hyped for the reasons of safety and preparedness. Going the other way results in more people dying from these events. Seriously, go read a book about hurricane deaths and forecasting.

NOAA control the wind speed determinations with their estimates from one or two flights above the hurricane from which, using models they estimate surface speed. We know these are consistently higher than reality, but a higher speed allows for a higher hurricane category and greater media attention."

Turns out they have recieved over 30 inches of rain in some places. (Swansboro, N.C.) And guess what, it's usually not the wind that kills. And BTW, you should probably keep posting in the soapbox.

Have some acquaintances up in Charlotte, who are doing fine, so I've been checking out weather.gov and I have to say I'm amazed at the level of detail available. Turns out there are a lot of records for flood levels that has gotten broken. With many not reported while the equipment has broken, due to the flooding. My country don't have catastrophes, if a thing like that happened here we would get pushed back a century.
